Anyone else accepted and confirmed? I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! September is so far away! I'm just itching for more information/registration/timetables but thats still a few months away! :)

You are correct we can register online, just released that, maybe another time then. As for the scrubs question I was under the impression we would find out at the time we got our book list, as the colours change from time to time. Seems so little time to get all the last little things organised.

You register online. The scrubs can be bought in the bookstore..or anywhere you can buy scrubs but they must be ciel blue. Your placement will start in week 2. Starfish, any advise for semester 2? Is it a lot harder? Where was your placement? And did you buy any of the books/any specific useful books.for semester 2?

starfish, help me understand something!

I will register on Monday. Do you get to pick your schedule entirely? Or is it just assigned to you? The whole day off thing works great for me as I need (and want!) to work as much as possible (I work for Hamilton Health Sciences and just want to soak in as much as I can from the nurses that I work with/around).

You will pick either the Tuesday/Wednesday block, or the Thursday/Friday block, and that's pretty much the only choice you get to make. The classes are at set times, and you will attend with all the other students in your chosen block. You actually don't see the other group at all.

Lots of the students are holding down part-time work while in school, and in your case it's probably to your advantage to do so!

Did you do any of your placements at a Hamilton Health Sciences site? Or are you possibly doing your 4th semester placement at one?

I am at Juravinski Hospital right now for my semester 3 surgical rotation. Your first placement will be in a long-term care facility; they don't start using the hospitals until your semester 2 medical rotation- usually a rehab unit.

Did you pick tues/weds or thurs/fri for your placements? And once you pick a set of days, are your placements on those same days for every semester or can you change it when you register next semester?

I have been in Tues/Wed all 3 semesters so far. All that means is that my clinical will be on one or the other of those days- I didn't get to choose. My clinicals were Wednesdays for first and second term, and now it's on Tuesday. Luck of the draw! Just to be clear- when I go to register tomorrow, for example, I will be trying to choose a Tues/Wed block, if possible, and then when the semester starts they will tell me which is my clinical day and which is my lab day (they are opposite each other). The servers are always ridiculous on registration day, just be ready for that. It takes forever, and sometimes you might get stuck with something you don't want. There is no way around it, that I can tell!

Everything just seems so vague and confusing! I just want someone to lay it all out for me step by step as I'm a planner and it feels like NOTHING is able to be controlled at all! That drives this analytical freak absolutely insane!!!

I hear you. It's frustrating, but it will all happen one way or another. I'm like you- I like to plan the dickens out of everything, and unfortunately some things in the program are 'need-to-know', and sometimes on short notice. You just have to roll with the punches as best you can!

Thanks for any help you can give me! I greatly appreciate it!

Contact me anytime, I will do my best to help you!

Hey Andrea,

You will probably find that the work becomes more difficult this term. Looking back, I can't believe the amount of time we spent making beds, when now we're learning to hang blood in half the time!! Insanity. LOL Most of us got placements on rehab units in area hospitals for semester 2- and they're 12-hr shifts. Takes some getting used to! :) Mine was at Brantford General, which I really enjoyed a lot. I don't recall buying any new books last term... you probably already have what you need, unless you haven't bought a med-surg text. But, lots of people have done fine without it. I think I would have bought fewer books in semester 1, knowing what I know now. Like the one for PD for example... barely cracked that one! Although now I might, since we have it again in semester 4. Who knows.

As always, feel free to contact me anytime!

Hey relaxingbath, I would love to meet for coffee sometime before classes start to connect . Would anybody else like to meet? I'm pretty open this week. Any suggestions for place?

Hi Magal, my week is fairly free just have a meeting in IAHS wednesday morning at 10 which should take an hour and I think something is happening friday morning, so other than those two things i'm free. I'm based out of Cambridge so other than taking some time to get over to hamilton anywhere would be good, even though i've been here for 2.5 years still don't know where a lot of places are so i'll let someone else do the organizing and i'll use good old google to fine my way.

@starfish...thanks for much for your response! I actually work at the Juravinski as an Environmental Aide. Now I'm so curious on which ward you're doing your placement. I am desperate to have a surgical placement because I know how beneficial it is. One of the RPNs I've spoken to at work did one of her placements on the surgical ward where she ended up getting a job.

*sigh* I am SO excited and SO nervous!

Starfish..thanks for your reply!! I didn't find semester 1 too challenging...it's definitely a lot of work but the content isn't very difficult (in my opinion)...I'm definitely ready for a challenge!

REGISTERED!!!!

I have Mondays off because I already did a COMM course back in my first trip through Mohawk and got a 92...so I am NOT doing it again!

It finally feels real and I am SO excited!

relaxingbath, we could meet on Wednesday near IAHS so that you don't have to drive again this way. There is a Starbucks in front of the hospital (right in front of emerge) beside Shoppers Drugmart. We could meet around 11:30. Anyone else wants to meet? There is free parking behind the Shoppers.

I actually have to go out to Mac tomorrow for a cT so I likely won't be going back out there on Wednesday. I might have to work anyway. Oh the joys of being on-call.
