Langara College, Vancouver: Nursing Students

World Canada CA Programs

Published

hi,

i got accepted into the sept 2007 program. how many of you are nursing students or pre nursing students in langara? and those who graduated or are current students - any tips on the courses, professors, practicum, books, tuition etc.?

come out, come out, wherever u are! :D

Hey s.reddy. They're currently trying to get rid of the current waitlist and so will not be accepting applications until 2012. They changed the admission system and it is no longer first come first serve, but merit based. You should double check with the updated requirements since they've changed it. And because it's merit based, they won't know the admission standard until the they assess the intake in 2012.[/quote

Thanks for the reply! Ill try and get more information from the counsellors and advisors

I love this site! I felt like i was the only one waiting forever to get into the program! My anticipated start date is sept 2012 also but i'm hoping to get in for January 2012! That would be ideal!

I'm a little nervous to start cause i hear its really hard and i have a baby girl(14months) which is going to be a challenge. Anyone know what the class hours are like...are you going to classes everyday or is it like university where you can pic which classes suit your schedule and only go 3 days a week? just wondering...

Cant wait to hear updates :)

The classes are set. You pick either section 1 or section 2. There usually isn't too much difference between the sections; one might get out earlier on a Monday while the other will get out earlier on a Friday. There might be an earlier start on certain days for one section compared with the other. It usually evens out in the end. Most people pick sections based on what their friends pick.

Term 5 and 8 are the Consolidated Practice Experiences which are only on Mon-Wed, although the instructor might want you to go practice skills in the lab on an occasional Thurs or Fri if s/he thinks you are rusty.

Most semesters are 5 days a week.

Thanks for the fast reply Erik!

Just another question...I was told today that i have a seat for January 2012 which i'm very excited about! Is there an interview process they go through in order to be accepted or once a seat becomes available your into the program?

I'm not sure. As someone has said upthread, they have changed the evaluation process to get into the program from when I started 4 years ago. It sounds like you are in though, if they said you have a seat. Best person to talk to is the senior nursing secretary. Her name and contact information is on the faculty section of the nursing school part of Langara's website.

Good luck!

Erik

Hi there,

I am also on the waitlist for the langara nursing program with an estimated intake of Sept.2012. How did you find out that you got a seat for January?

Also, when did you get onto the waitlist? How long have you been waiting?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

My estimated start date was sept 2012 as well and I emailed *******, clerk specialist, and asked what number i was on the waitlist and she replied saying i was number 50 and was offered a seat for Jan 2012.

I applied in the summer of 2009 so its been almost two years.

I would email ****** ( her email address is on the langara nursing homepage) and ask her the same thing. I'm sure she'll let you know :)

Good luck :)

Hi there,

I am on the waitlist for Langara nursing too, and I was wondering when did you get put on the waitlist? I got on around December.2009, and I got a letter last month that there were more than 100 people ahead of me and that my anticipated start date is Sept.2012. The thing is I have no idea whether I am in the early 100s or closer to the 200s..lol...Did you get this letter as well? Did your letter tell you your position on the waitlist?

Thanks so much for any help you can offer :)

Hi, sorry for the very late reply! I got accepted to the Nursing program in Mid-December 2009. When I last talked to Langara in May I think I was #105 on the list and they indicated that I would probably be looking at September 2012 but with a faint hope of January 2012. Have you contacted Langara recently to see if more people have dropped off the waitlist lately?

Anyone here in for Sept 2012?

Hi carebearss! I, too will be starting in sept. Are you in section 1 or 2?

Hey adotu! :) Nice to know you're starting in Sept! I'm actually having a difficult time deciding whether or not I should accept the offer, so I haven't chosen a section yet! Just curious, when did you get notified for being accepted?
