BCIT August 2013 Applicants

World Canada CA Programs

Hello future nurses,

I am so excited to be starting nursing at BCIT in August!

For future applicants: To have a strong application make sure you have work experience, volunteer experience (preferably healthcare), as well as liberal arts courses - my Psych 241 at SFU transferred over as a libs course and I will find out if any other courses of mine transfer over once I send them an updated transcript.

I am going to be going in with a completed BSc in Kinesiology and Psychology, but a full degree is not necessary, just at least 60 credits to be competitive!

Anyone else defer to August?

im 99 percent sure that if you defer, you are in for the next intake...but you have ti be accepted or or possibly wait-listed before you defer

To those who are currently in the program, what are your thoughts on having a job while in school? How long are you in lecture/clinical per day? What time does your day start/end? I currently work Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-7pm, and I'm wondering if that would be manageable?

For level one clinical is tues and wed so Monday night u do patient research, that can take around 3 hrs if u have to do research a care plan and med cards. I would not suggest working very much. The program is intensive and there is always something u can be doing. I took a leave from work for the first 2 months and will b starting to work one day per week. It depends on u, I know someone who did work 2-3 days per week but they have exceptional time management and organization. You need to find balance. Some people find the workload a lot and can't image working and some are able to manage one day per week.

I would not work. I don't have a job and I am constantly behind. This program is extremely intense. There is at least a midterm or paper a week, patient research, clinical is exhausting not to mention PBL presentations that you are giving the day after clinical. There are people in the program who work like ace mentioned.. I don't know if these individuals sleep. I average around 5 hours of homework a night after full days of school along with most of my weekends consisting of homework. Its worth it though.. I have learned so much and we have come so far as a class. Just my insight though you know your own stress levels/ time you need to sleep and it may be different from mine!

Mondays you will not be able to work at all. Wednesdays you may be in clinical until 6 30 pm.. you could work Friday/ Saturday/ Sunday to answer your question!
