World Canada CA Programs

Hi!

I was just wondering if anyone else was waiting around to find out whether or not they got into an accelerated nursing program in ON? Where did you apply and when do people generally hear back from admissions?

Congratulations; what a day!

Ahhh thank you! I was meaning to send you an email :).

@jbethune, i just got my acceptance to U of T today!!!!! Who would have thought?! I'm still in disbelief.

Yaaay!!! Congrats!! Very exciting - are you going to accept?

Congratulations; what a day!

Thanks. It was over so quickly! Hard to really know how it went given the MMI format. It would take the pressure off if I got some good news from another school in the meantime, but so far nothing positive to report.
I had 3 years done..think that made a difference?

I think that it would make a bit of a difference that you had more education; they definitely value that in the application process. If you don't mind my asking, what were you studying/what were most of your courses in?

I'm getting hopeless. Today is 4/23 and I haven't heard nothing from UfT. I have 4 year bachelor degree, completed all the prerequisite classes except Statistics (on process). I dont know what was wrong...

I totally empathize; this is very, very challenging.

I'm still waiting to hear from 4/5 Ontario schools and in some ways I think it would have been easier if I hadn't found this board! Even if I get in, I'll feel like an also-ran, knowing that others were selected far earlier.

I was doing Life Sci at Mac. Courses..I had a bit of everything in there, to be honest. An extra year might have made a slight difference..but I do know that not a single non-degree holder was in last year's class (via a girl I met at a conference). So perhaps my application essay factored in? Man, that thing was tough to write though. Trying to present yourself in a good light in 250 or less is definitely not an easy task haha. You should have applied to Mac! I know at least 4 of the people who've been accepted so far only have 2 years of university.

Oh wow, I had no idea they accepted so many people without degrees at Mac, and so few at U of T.

As for Mac I don't have any biochemistry credits, and at the university I go to in BC there are at least 4 pre-req courses for biochem. It would take me 3 semesters to get in, and then 2 semesters to finish. ...Meanwhile "nutrition" counts as a biochem course at Mac... So confusing.

You're remarkably well spoken, even on a forum, so I don't doubt that had something to do with it. :) You also have some incredible volunteer work, so I doubt your entire application hinged on a year of school.

So i guess the admissions Gods heard my cry- I was just accepted to Uoft's 2 year accelerated nursing program!!

Some stats:

Will be completing my four year undergrad degree in Sociology and Equity Studies from Uoft this week

Gpa in the last five credits at time of application was 3.58, last year however my Gpa was 3.76 (my final grades for this semester have not yet come in)

Volunteer experience: Toronto Rehab Unit Support Volunteer and OT Support volunteer for a year, volunteer at a student run sexual education centre on campus, and some miscallaneous stuff, including daily bread food bank, accessibility services and being in a student union

Any more questions...feel free

Congrats tashap18!! Very exciting. I wonder if someone will make a facebook group soon?

For those that haven't heard, remember there's still the whole of May for them to continue sending out acceptances.. and then June for the wait list (which in my combing of previous years' forums, I DID read about people who got in from the wait list). Hang in there!

still waiting on York/Humber/Trent.. my prospects seem bleak with a 74% gpa =( haven't prayed in a while but this seems as good a time as any
