CRNE Prep Group in Toronto or Ottawa - October 2011

World Canada CRNE

Published

Hey everyone, I was wondering if there are any people who want to start a CRNE (Canadian Registered Nurses Exam) Prep group or study group, whatever you may call it.

I just graduated and am scheduled to write in October. The reason why I wrote Toronto or Ottawa, is that I presently work and live in Toronto, having just graduated from Ryerson. I make it back home to Ottawa on the weekends, so am planning on hardcore studying in both cities!!!!!!

If we make a group, we can compile CRNE questions and go over material together. Any ideas would be very helpful. I heard the test is really hard now, and I personally know some people who have failed. Let me know, we can start as soon as July!

There are plenty of threads both in this forum and the International forum discussing prep for the CRNE.

I would say going with a facility that has a bad record even in the past is not something I would advice. You only have a certain amount of times you can sit this exam and you need to give yourself the best start and I can't see how going with something that has a bad reputation is a best start

Hello everyone, I passed the June 1, 2011 CRNE. Here are some websites that I used while I was studying for the CRNE. I just wanted to share them because they helped me...

Also, I just wanted to warn you about making your own CRNE questions... you have to be careful because CRNE is a standardized test. Because it's a standardized test, there are ways in which these questions are asked that are different from your typical nursing school tests--which are mostly recall and recognition tests. I learned that there is a group of RNs who work together to come up with these questions. Each question is thoroughly scrutinized by this committee to see if it truly measures one of the competencies. Once the question is approved, these questions are "tested out" by inserting them in current CRNEs as experimental/sample questions. I got this info from attending a CRNE prep course set up by my school. Some of the instructors were co-authors of the Mosby Comprehensive book. Also, they were part of the committee who came up with past CRNE questions.

If you're only testing content, then yes, I think making up mini-quizzes is a great way to start. However, the CRNE is not a recall and recognition test, it requires critical thinking and application as well. Knowledge (i.e., content) is only 1/3 of the taxonomies listed, the other two are Critical Thinking and Application.

r.u.serious is right, there are great tips on the CRNE June 2011 given by individuals who have passed the test. Personally the only book I swear by is the CNA prep guide, the other books were just supplemental material (that's just my 2 cents).

Good luck with studying everyone! I hope you succeed!

can anyone give me the information about classes by ***** for crne prep? i am interested in preparing for crne by joining some classes that could help me ...i will be appearing in oct 2011

I would also caution you against reviewing extensively with people you don't know, because this can lead to confusion and becoming sidetracked. Everyone has different methods of learning and abilities. If you are going to form study groups, you should reserve plenty of time for studying solo or with one friend. Ultimately, the goal is to succeed in the exam. I've taken and passed the CRNE, so I speak from experience.

Thanks for the advice. But I am thinking more now about books sharing than a group session. The CRNE references in the libraries are always not available and it takes like forever to get hold of one :( I have some references/prep guides that I am using now and that I can share

I agree. Group sessions would entirely be to reinforce material I think. There's no substitute for individual study sessions. That said, some people thrive from group study, so I think its entirely an individual preference based on a person's habits and knowing what works for them. Good advice though. RUserious, when I get back from the cottage perhaps we can share some study material. I'll be back in mid August though, so study hard until then :yeah::D;)
