World Canada CRNE

Published

Hi AllNurses :nurse:. I will be writing the CPNRE on January 2011. My study materials are:

-Mosby's Canadian Comprehensive Review of Nursing 2nd Edition and

-The Canadian PN Exam Prep Guide 3rd Edition.

To all test takers for January 2011 (hoping that I am not the only one here), please join and we'll support each other to stay on track and keep on going. To all other members who passed the exam or knowledgeable about the CPNRE, please give some inputs. Badly needed. Thank you.

A prayer to all of us, "Lord God, our Saviour, we are asking for your guidance for the upcoming CPNRE. Help us to comprehend what we are studying and give us wisdom to pass the exam. Please Lord. In Jesus Name, Amen".

Will always keep you posted :)

Very very very tricky, I would say

Didn't like it!!!!!

And also waitig for a miracle!!!

OMG that was hard! I wrote yesterday and am TERRIFIED I did not pass. There were about 25-30 questions on each book that I had to skip and come back to, and even then, I usually was going back and forth between two answers....I am PRAYING I pass.

What really sucks is I was a good student, and because of that, everyone kept going "You'll be fine, YOU will never fail"...so I feel like if I do fail now, I'll be letting more than myself down. :(

These next 4-6 weeks are gonna be torture. Anyone know what you need to pass? According to the ASI test site, its NOT graded on a bell curve as is commonly thought, a group of nurses from across Canada sit down and decide what percentage is needed to pass the test. I hope to God you only need a 75 or something...if you need above 80, I really think I may be writing again in May! :(

Also...I used the PN prep guide, did the two predictor tests, AND the in-class predictor test. ALL of them seemed easy, and all said I had like a 95-100% chance of passing...but then I went in to the exam, and found it was as though the predictor tests were written at a grade 5 level, and the exam was at a grade 8 level! So many confusingly worded questions, and questions on stuff that feels out of the scope of an RPN! Stuff my teachers glossed over and said "You won't need to know this, because as an RPN you won't be allowed to take care of a patient like this"

:(

Today when I checked my answers (I remember some of the questions, how I wish I could share them with you), so far, I found 4 mistakes (knowledge-based) which dropping my chance to pass it. 2-because of too much analyzing the question,1- I was confused and 1- I changed my answer during my last minutes (I was tempted to change more or less 10 answers for the 2 books). So what more to those questions that need critical thinking? I think I failed it :( I am thinking about how they score it as well. Feeling so bad & still hoping for a miracle to happen :(

I used the online predictor tests, the assessment strategies PN prep guide, and also tests given at my school. I left the test feeling like I failed. As someone in the thread mentioned the prep guides were written at a lower level than the book. I know I made alot of mistakes I am just praying I pass this one. I was told by someone that the pass is determined by what the average is that everyone got on the test. It bothers me because I feel more should of been done of behalf of my college to prepare us more for this exam. I left the exam disappointed and completely exhausted. Doesn't help I was sick all night from my bronchitis, I want to apologize to those writing at MTC that person you heard coughing was likely me.

I would share your sentiment.

It has been more than 48 hours since we wrote the exam, and I felt like it was the trickiest exams EVER!! I actually dont know how i did. Canadian Prep Guide and the online Predictor test was waaaayyyy easier but the exam was TOOOOOO TRICKY i would say.

I was soooo tired after writing the exam.. and now, all i can remember was the WRONG answers which are the VERY BASICS. come-on :(

Now, i am sooo scared. How will they score the test?? Will it be 4-6 weeks of waiting? or 6-8weeks?

Oh my. This will be intense. ;(

I agree the exam left me too very exhausted. They said we would have to wait 4-6 weeks for our results. I too kept thinking about all the questions i answered wrong. :( It's a real downer just thinking about it, for my own sake i am gonna think positive and pray I passed. I totally agree that the test was very tricky and the prep guides questions weren't as complicated as those on the actual exam. I just think this waiting game is gonna drive me crazy.

What college did everyone attend? Do you feel they prepared you enough to write the CPNRE?

What college did everyone attend? Do you feel they prepared you enough to write the CPNRE?

I graduated from Centennial 2 years ago but I didn't write the exam right away because I have to go back home. Then I came back here last year and decided to take it so I could find a good job. So I cannot gauge exactly if my school prepared me or not. All I can say is I have to read the whole thing again because I forgot almost 80% of it. I am an above average student. How about you guys?

I took the Practical Nursing program through Georgian College in Barrie. I finished up my praxis at the end of November 2010 and decided to write right away. I wonder whether i should of opted for writing in May because i came down with the flu a week before the test and the flu just got worse. When I wrote I was feeling terrible, but it was at the point that I couldn't get my money for the exam back. I had about an 86 average in the program, but i still think i failed the exam there was alot of stuff on there that I didn't look over. This resulted in me guessing some of the answers, so i feel uncertain. I heard a pass is determined by what the average marks on the test were, and how we did in each of the categories. I have a friend that wrote in Sept. and her average was in the 90's, i was shocked that she had to rewrite as I felt she would be the first to pass an exam like this. At this point i am praying and keeping my fingers crossed for a pass. I accepted a job at LTC but i heard if we fail our license is revoked and we will be out of a job.

I went to Sheridan College, and was a straight-A student, with most grades in the 90s. Now I am honestly concerned that I failed. :( I just finished my program and decided to write immediately, as I thought everything would still be "fresh" in my mind.

I read on the ASI website (the people who make and administer the test), that the passing grade is decided by a panel of "experts" who review the exam, and decide what minimum number of correct answers is needed to meet the standards a new nurse needs to meet to work safely. The mark is the same across Canada, in both English and in French. I'm just praying they decided it was a hard exam and that the passing grade is low enough that I can pass!

What sucks is people keep telling me "you did awesome in school, you could never fail"...well, great, thanks...now if I DO fail, I"m going to feel even worse, like I'm letting people down!

The next few weeks are going to be HELL. But on the other hand, it will be hell to recieve a letter saying I failed, too...*sigh*

I just hope that if I do wind up failing, I find out in enough time to write in May! I don't want to wait until September. :(

And yes, if you get a HFO job and then fail, it's revoked...not sure what happens if it's not HFO...I guess then it depends how much the place likes you!

I guess in the next weeks to come we are all gonna have to stay positive and wait for the results to come in. I have been promoted from psw to rpn at the LTC place i work at. I am just curious what they will do if my temporary license gets revoked, i guess i will be a psw again till i pass. I decided to try to focus on not thinking about the test until the results of the tests come in it will just drive me crazy but it is a difficult thing to do. All my classmates and friends keep telling me to quit being silly and that i passed. I guess only time will tell. Apparently, these exams are graded by a curve bell, which means the grade to pass is determined by what the average grade on the test was, and that your grade needs to be higher than the average. It is almost an unfair way of grading but I guess that is the way they have always determined the passing of this test.
