CPNRE Blueprint 2011 / 2012

  1. 1 Hi,im a new member here and i just received my eligibility to take the Cpnre. As im not yet confident to take the exam im planning to write the cpnre on september or january 2012. The exam blueprint on jan 2012 will be new as it was written online that new Blueprint arose from a comprehensive review of entry-level competencies required of practical nurses beginning to practise in the year 2012. From january 2012 the exam would consist of 180-200 questions compared to 230-250 questions for the last 5years. The percentage of questions changed to a small percent too. Im an IEN and i havent had any prep guide yet,and havent read the Compendium standards and strategies so i would like to have a first base knowledge regarding the changes. What would be the difference if i write the september exam or the jan 2012?

Thank you. I hope i would be enlighten with this matter.

Working nurses in Canada have no idea of what you are asking.

We write, pass the exam and then forget about it.

Only you know how prepared you are to write the exam.

I think you're making this exam way more difficult for yourself than necessary.

    Neja,
I would say if you can write it in September this year do it. The you could even write in may probably. At least this way you have the current practice exams available now. Though I am sure they will come out with new ones in time for January. But why wait, the sooner you write, the sooner you can practice. And you won't have to worry about forgetting anything you learned. That's just MHO tho

Yes, we know that. But this forum is for issues concerning working nurses in Canada. Canadian student nurses will informed by their educational institutes as to how the exam will change by their instructors. We were well prepared on what type of exam to expect before graduation. We bought the appropriate guide, we wrote the exam and then when we passed we forgot about it.

Why don't you contact the provincial college for your province and see what information they can provide you. The college is responsible for the exam administration and handles requests about it.

I just wrote and failed the September 2011 CPRNE exam. I have now registered and purchased the new Prep guide. Not proud i failed but stuff happens, im an honors student and obviously did not prepare enough. The new blueprint and test should prove to be interesting and i do not plan to making a third attempt.
So, i will experience both the old and the new exams.

I am going to write the Jan 2012 CPNRE,too. I have had some experience taking the 180-200 qs exam. very stressful. Not easy. I am going to try to have a comprehensive review, use the 4th ed prep guide and do the predictor tests. They might help. By the way, I have 2 copies, brand new with cd. If someone wants, she/he can have it at almost half price.

As far as i am concerned allnurses is designed to be a e-social support group. Be sensitive and somehow you might deliver your messages in a nice way. She is concerned about the new blueprint for next year's exam which is the topic that this forum is up to. But whatever the topic is, be sensitive to others.

i am also rewriting jan2010. I am from windsor area and was wondering what or how else to study, I bought the 4th edition and did the online predictors , but for my first they did not help that was the 3rd one and the online predictors. Are we writing the 200-300 questions again or the 180-200? Does any one know?

Are you still in College? We had a rep from our provincial College stop by to tell us how the room was set up, what to bring, how long it would be, etc.

If this isn't done in your area, a quick phone call to your provincial college will answer your questions.
