Before the Morning (Failed CRNE three times. what now?)

World Canada CRNE

Published

I just received a bad news. My nursing career is over. Yes, I am no longer one of you, but I feel a need to share my story. I have failed the CRNE for the third time and honestly, I don't know what is there left for me. I know things happen for a reason. sometimes, i just think that GOD is being so unfair. Throughout my nursing school, all i did was to do my best both theory and clinical. I have received praises being a "very good" Graduate Nurse. But then again, all has to end with an examination that I can't seem to pass even though I have put my thoughts and heart on preparing for it. At some point, I think of myself as a dumb individual, up for no good. If nursing was not meant for me, why did HE made it possible for me to even complete my Degree Program? I have so many questions to GOD right now. I have prayed hard for that moment of finally receiving a letter with the word "PASS" on it, but instead a phone call saying I have failed on my third attempt and had to wait for a letter containing my options.

Nursing Has always been my dream and I can't see myself pursuing other career in life. I don't think I can handle another 4 years of schooling or even the strength to even try to put my life back on track. I know that God has a reason for why I'm going through this test right now (one I consider the hardest test in my life, so far), and probably there is more to come. I have so much faith in him that in spite it all, I still look forward to that one morning of waking up from my sleep and the pain, the sadness, the sufferings are over. I know that HE works in ways unimaginable. I know that he hears my prayer and in his own time he'll grant those prayers. But for now, all I needed is some sort of encouragement from you, whoever you are reading this post right now.

I still thank GOD because I have my life, I am breathing, I can still appreciate all the good things he had created. As long as there is tomorrow, I will continue to fight a good fight!

sorry to hear also. I am new to this site ,but i an writing my canadian practical nurse exam in 2 weeks , and am at a loss as to what to study exactly. I have been going over the grey spiral book and did the online mandatory test (predictor). but not sure if i should be studying more plz. help, i am desperate to do this only one time.LOLsad.png

I found the online predictor tests to be very accurate when I wrote the PN exam. I had a high score on the predictor exam so didn't panic about studying further for the exam. It was quite easy actually.

my first predictor was a propability of 25% pass the sec. was 75-80%, but i am still going over them and my grey book. I will buy them till i get awsome mark, but should i be going over my notes from past 2yrs. also r we able to bring calculator to examxam or no

I just wrote the crne for the 3rd time yesterday. I believe i passed, but lets say worst comes to worst, what else can i do with my nursing degree that doesn't require me to pass the crne?

Guys, for everyone thinking that 3 tries is fair and all that ********, before 2005 you got 6 chances to pass the CRNE.

Where did you hear that? I wrote in 1994 and it was three attempts then. Someone from my class failed three times and that was it for her. And there was none of this "Well, I'll just be an LPN then" business either.

Some people probably shouldn't be practicing, which is one reason why they would have changed it. You may not agree, but 3 attempts IS fair. The CRNE tests basic nursing competencies. The majority of people do succeed within the 3 attempts.

There are literally hundreds of posts that contain information on how to study for the exam. Have you read them? What applies for the CRNE will also apply for the CPNRE. I don't think we need another hundred posts rehashing the same stuff.

It's always been 3 tries.

YES, I HAVE. i have done the online tests they've suggested, the grey spiral book from the book store, and read over my notes so now i need other suggestions, if anyone has helpful suggestions that could help thanks

There are far more suggestions than those in the various threads.

"You must analyze where your weaknesses are. Do you have trouble determining what the question is actually asking? Do you have difficulty with multiple-choice questions? Do you struggle with English language comprehension? Is your theoretical knowledge weak? Your clinical knowledge? Are you struggling with therapeutic communication (which as we all know is NOT how people interact with each other in the real world)? By figuring out where you're falling down, you can then work on improving your examination-taking. When you do practice questions, read the rationale given for the correct responses so you can understand how CNA arrived at them. Sometimes it's not about what you know but how you apply it."

Use the nursing process to gain insight into your problem areas.

Assess: Look at the questions you get wrong on the practice exams. Read the rationales for the correct responses. Alter your thought processes so that you begin to think like a CNA examination developer.

Diagnose: Figure out why you're falling short. You should be able to see where the problem lies once you do that assessment. You can't solve a problem until you know what it is.

Plan: Develop a strategy for figuring out how to succeed next time.

Implement: If you need more practice writing multiple choice exams, do that. If you need to improve your language comprehension, take a class. If you need to review certain parts of your clinical knowledge, do that. Practice speaking in that stilted and convoluted manner that colleges perceive as therapeutic. But don't keep doing the same thing expecting different results. The exam will be your evaluation.
