Hi everyone!

I am a LTC RN, and my boyfriend works at a camp. The nurse called out at the camp and they didn't have any available backup. I got asked to pick up, since I'm able to pass meds, which was their big need.

The director wants me to meet with him to talk pay and I was just wondering if any of you professional camp nurses had input.

I make 22.50 an hour at the nursing home: should I start there? I feel like I should lower a bit bcs I spent most of the day hanging in the office, but on the other hand I am here on short notice as a big favor, so I kind of don't want to sell myself short.

Thoughts?

22.50 is very high for a camp nurse....15.00 would be more reasonable especially if it is a not for profit camp.

What kind of camp?

It's an educational camp, I guess? Right on the water in Plymouth, MA. Schools come here for the week and do activities like rocket-building, shark dissection, coastal walks, field trips on a lobster boat, etc.

My tasks have been med administration, basic treatments (had a splinter and a cut cheek so far), checking insulin pumps, and putting together e-kits for the kids that go offsite.

Maybe start w $20 and expect to be negotiated down?

THANKS!

Oh, and it is an overnight camp if that makes a difference. I'm at the desk from 8a to 10p

I know one of our posters here is management at a similar camp in Maine, she would be the expert. My old camp hired part timers, they didn't do an entire day and so were paid hourly. I would guess they were paid to the tune of $15-$18. Their ranged from LPN to RN CSN.

We hire per diem staff per day at a rate of $150/day. Less than 4 hours is a half day greater than 4 hours is a full day.
