That's so great!!! So...what kind of a job do you work during the remainder of the year? Are you a school nurse? If not, how do you get the whole summer off to be a camp nurse? I would love to do that some day! I'm still a student!! But I loved camp as a kid and I think it would be so cool to get to be a part of that experience for kids. I still remember our camp nurse!! We had the same one every year (I always managed to get stung by a bee at least twice each year and once I actually burned my hand really good lighting the bonfire using black powder...don't ask me what the he11 Jerry the boys counselor was thinking!!! :D ) Anyway...Any thanks in advance!!! And CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Toured Camp Eagle Hill--- looks just like my Camp Kweebec. You've made me want to go back to camp and play!

Have a great time and enjoy your newest adventure!

Hmmmm... lol

Agency Nurse, trying to get an independent contract (looks good some days more then others as far as it being obtainable) so.. I am trying to work like a bunny now before I take off for a month this summer. I will go from the end of June through the end of July!

I was able to browse several offers. It is appealing to me to be somewhere totally different then the west where I live now. I love the fact that I grew up on the east coast (NJ) and I can take my kids back to that area to explore. I did go "back" last year, actually toured NY Harbor and shared the then NY skyline with my children. Sad how a city can change so incredibly in one season.

There is a great need for nurses in many areas of specialty, including camp nursing.

I sometimes think I am more excited then the kids!

B.:) :) :)

That is fabulous!! I loved camp as a kid and would love to go back and get to be a part of that experience for other children! Not to mention your children getting to attend...you can't bean that with a stick!!! That adds quite a bit of value to what you'd be getting paid. Good luck and let me know how it goes!! I'm living vicariously through everyone on this board till I'm through with school and I would love to hear how it went!

Wow, that sounds so great! I never thought of camp nursing. I am still in school, waiting to get into impacted program. What kind of hours do you work as a camp nurse? Are there 2 of you? Thanks! Heather

Dublin:

Sorry to have taken so long to respond. My computer has been acting up.

The hours vary greatly in camp nursing. Last summer, I had two days off for the month. In actuality, it was less then that for we were NOT allowed to take off in the AM for morning meeting etc. I was not a happy camper but my kids did have a great time. I will be choosing another camp (hopefully) this year. The one I am interviewing right now has a day off a week... you can bet I will clarify what THAT means.

As far as hours worked... again clarify expectations. Some camps expect 24/7 because YOU are the ONLY camp nurse. Some have a built in backup. Some camps allow those campers who are not too sick to stay with their camp leader or have their family present as in the case of family camps. Again, try to discuss the what if's of camp nursing expectations.

I have not regreted my introduction into the world of camp nursing. It was a wonderful experience for my kids to have FREE camp life for a month. Their memories will last a life time (and mine too.. although not as positive)... I hope to experience the bliss for ALL of us this year though....
