First time camp nurse (maybe)

Specialties Camp

Published

I have a phone interview for a camp nurse position tomorrow. Not sure of the location, pay, or anything at this point.

I have been a school nurse for 5 years.

What should I expect as a camp nurse??

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Oh boy, that's a lot of ground to cover. First you should read how to choose a camp it's here on allNurses.

There are some basics you will need to know about contract negotiations and what care model your camp is using. I have them posted here if you want to read them.

The best advice I can give you is don't be rushed, and DON'T, I repeat do not, be low balled. At this point camps want ink on contract ASAP. Take a day and really consider what your doing and your gut feel before signing anything. Camp pay is generally lousy but right now this close to opening day your negotiating position has never been better, don't be afraid to negotiate.

Let us know how it goes. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Also the association of camp nurses is a great resource.
