Camps that allow you to bring children with you..

by mamato3

I have three kids 13 (boy), 9( girl) and 2 (boy). The older two could probably stay home but with dad but the youngest probably not. Do many camps allow you to bring young children with you? I am in the central PA area. Thanks Shannon

Lucky you--you're in summer camp central there in PA. Most camps that are very welcoming to staff children are private summer camps. Google Wayne County summer camps (there are many other places, of course, but Wayne County has a huge concentration) and start looking around. Good luck!

Actually, most camps would welcome your older 2 kids but not the youngest. It's difficult to work when you have a toddler--if you have a camper who is vomiting or sick toddlers tend to get into the way! And they have the perfect timing! Fussing when you really need to assess and treat a camper! You are there to work, and infirmarys are not child proof. Too many things they can get into.

Awsmom, some camps have special programs for preschool aged children of the staff.

Wow! That's cool! I've worked at 8 camps and have not seen that before. I worked a camp were an MD brought her 3 year old...it was a nightmare when we were busy.

I work at a camp in CT, and they hire a counselors to watch younger children under 5. They call them mother's helpers. They will adjust your pay though to cover this cost.

until my daughter was 5 I brought my teenage neice to look after her. Some camps will allow you to bring a baby sitter especially if it's a volunteer position.
