  1. Is there anyone out there that will be starting the program who is in the Oceanside area and willing to carpool? It's quite a haul and would be better with two or more in the car!
  2. Wish you lived south instead of north! I've got a pretty far drive as well! I live in Eastlake...so even taking the toll road it's still about 40 minutes! In regards to orientation, I was told we get our schedules that night which will be nice so we can plan our lives around school! I took the CNA course at Kaplan and orientation pretty much consisted of a livescan, trying on scrubs, filing out paperwork, and meeting the DON...so I'm guessing it will be pretty similar?

ooh how exciting! That sounds cool. I'd like to know what my schedule will be like. I get financial assistance that I can't request until I can submit the name of the class and the dates of it. I am the type that likes to tie all loose ends ASAP!

It's about 40 mins for me WITHOUT traffic, and although I am not a morning person I am hoping we have class EARLY so I can beat the morning rush. haha.

I'm super excited! Can't wait to meet up with you at Orientation.

Are you Married? I am, and I'm hoping my Husband is ready to be married to a Nursing student. hahaha. I hear it can get pretty emotional.

  4. Are you a military spouse? Just asking cuz the financial assistance you're applying for sounds similar to something I'm trying to get also. I tried submitting it without the exact courses and no such luck! It didn't get approved!

So as I said I am married and we have a 5 and a half month old daughter! I'm sad I'm going to have to put her in daycare but I see it as a short term sacrifice for long term gains! Just as long as she doesn't start calling the daycare lady mommy!

I'm excited to meet you too and just start school already! I'm glad I have something to look forward to after the holidays! Such a great start to a new year!

Yes, I am a military spouse, you? Are you going to be using the My CAA thing as well? I just got mine approved today, I was waiting to see if I got accepted.

So, have oyou taken any of the pre clinical classes like the regular GE stuff? I took it all already but, the anatomy, physiology and the Micro. I have my BS already so I have all the GEs and then some, but not the science. hehe.

Do you have a facebook? Send me a private message with your link if you do.

Well, that is silly. I sent you a Private Message with my link. lol
  8. Sorry if I'm writing a second post to answer your questions, just trying to boost up my post count lol :wink2:

I am a military spouse, as well! I am so thankful for myCAA and the GI Bill otherwise I don't know how we would have made me going to Kaplan a reality.

I have taken most of my pre-reqs. The only 2 or 3 I might need are Algebra ( I went straight to Stats b/c thats the nursing requirement at most schools) and I've taken Physio but not Anatomy. They do an A & P I/II so I don't know if they'll take my Physio only. I heard that they do all your Gen Ed stuff first and then Nursing Courses, and so we may only have to take a few classes a quarter (or however they break down each session) before they get into the actual nursing stuff. Don't take my word for it though cuz he didn't really get into it...kinda got the brush off when I started asking a bunch of questions. He's an admissions rep so he met his quota with me...on to the next poor sucker lol...

I've added you on facebook :spin: or at least I hope its you!

Yes, I took stats as well. I am worried that I will have to take the college algebra which will **** me off royally if I do. The only thing I did in my undergrad with regards to the science is Bio... haha and I'm sure that won't get me too far for being an RN. I am hoping that I'll only have to take those 3 science courses and that is IT!!!

My husband won't budge with his GI bill to pass it to me. I'm working on him about it. How much does the GI bill pay out when it is passed onto us?

Is your hubby Navy or Marines? Mine is Marines... we're up at Pendleton. I'm so glad we found each other here. It sounds like we have a lot in common, and that's awesome! I feel like I won't be so lonely now on the first day. At least I know 1 person. hehe.

  10. yeah that'd be freakin lame if we have to take algebra. i haven't taken a real math class in like 8 years! yes i said it stats isn't real math lol. you should really get on your hubby about passing his GI Bill to you, cuz it's not like he loses it if he does. he can still use whatever funds are left, or pass it on to your kids in the future. it's kinda tricky how they pay it out, my hubby did some extensive research! basically, the new GI Bill is $80k but they will only pay tuition based on the highest state university's tuition in the state of the school you're going to attend. UC something or other is like $250/ unit so that's all the VA will pay. if i
only have to take the two pre reqs, i think we calculated we'd have to come up $20k out of pocket (i don't remember if that includes the myCAA $6k)...which is hell of a lot better than $50k! That still leaves like $50k for your hubby to use. Plus you get E5 BAH every month and some other money for books and tutoring. You can do some research on the VA website also.

my husband is in the Navy, but he's a corpsman so he's been with the Marines before and got attached to a Marine unit in '07 and got deployed to Iraq. He's at Balboa for now and we bought a house in Eastlake last year.

I'm glad that we met on here too! I was kind of just a lurker on here for awhile and didn't actually register until I got accepted! yeah first day won't be so awkward now that we at least know one person!
