  2. I just turned in my app for csula bsn program today! does anyone know the average or range of points of applicants who generally get into the program?
  3. They there!

How is it going? Did you turn in the entire application, like TEAS, volunteer/healthcare exp ect...?
From what I found out for last fall 2011, through threads, is that the lowest person accepted stated that their score was 22/30 (not 31 due to not taking 2nd bachelors).
I have also heard that in fall 2010, someone was waitlisted with only 19/30! That person was called a week before school started.

Anywho, CSULA is very smart, and I believe they make cuts along the way towards the "final" cut that is around mid-March. Like they deny you if your ineligible, the app is incomplete, a pre req was taken more than once, GPA is less then req etc...
Then they make cuts in Jan-early March (I heard, I dont know how true this is) . I heard the cut is around 20 points. I mean it is kinda smart because you have like say, on a good day, over 500 applicants, and say at least HALF have about 15-20 points while the other half have above 20 points...it makes sense. Now, as I said, I dont know how true that is because people still might not have pre reqs, volunteer hours ect in progress.

So that is the bulk of my applicant knowledge. My advice is shot over 20 points if available. If that means volunteering or taking a CNA class to get extra points, its worth it. Seriously, because I know you want the points but the experience is going to come in handy especially the first year of nursing school, basic CNA work. So that is my advice.
    My points are as follows:
Pre req GPA: 3.86 (10 pts)
Overall GPA: 3.15 (2 pts) after fall it will raise
    TEAS Reading: 76% (3 pts)
    TEAS English: 80% (4 pts)
Healthcare Exp: CNA in hospital (pending verification): 3 pts
So I have about 22 points. My TEAS really sucked, I got an 82% overall. My overall GPA is just so low that I need to make up for it with retaking the TEAS, which I am next Friday! Ugh I just wished it wasnt so expensive!

Hi! Yeah I submitted everything, my TEAS and volunteer, copy of drivers license etc. I didnt have to pay the $25 for the ATI transcript though, since I took my TEAS twice at CSULA the scores are automatically sent there.

    My points are:
Pre req GPA: 4.0 (10 pts)
Overall GPA: 4.0 (5 pts) after fall it will still within the 3.7-4.0 range for the full 5 pts
    TEAS Reading: 83.3% (4 pts)
    TEAS English: 80% (4 pts)
Volunteer hours- 300 hours (2 pts)
My total points are 25. CSULB is my #1 choice but CSULA would probably be my backup if I get accepted.
Yeah the TEAS exam is expensive. It cost me $65 each time (at CSULA) and I'm taking it again in December at CSULB which only cost $35. I wish CSULA looked at the other subjects on the TEAS exam or the overall score. My adjusted score was a 88.7% and I had a 93.3% in math and a 93.8% in science. English/Reading has always been my weakness

Wow nice a 4.0! Geez I have been in college waaaay to long...if I knew what I knew now I would strive for every A. Oh well, sucks for me! I just posted on the csulb thread. I too have taken it the teas twice.
First time sucked, I got in the 80s in english an the 70s in reading (see a pattern? I hate those subjects) and so that is like 7 points. So I took it again last Friday and got a 88 something in reading and a 73 in english! What a waste! I still only have 7 points for them! oh well...
I really don't have the $$ to take it again but with your 4.0 and a really good teas score, don't waste your time taking it again! I took it the second time and got a 84 overall and a 90 something in math. I am just going to leave it.
I am just hoping to get in where ever, including ADN programs. Especially since the hospital where i work, they told me they will promote you once you pass your boards...so no job worrying for me. Where else did you apply? Honestly my {secret} top choice is CSULB but since they changed their stupid rules, I doubt i will get in, (read my CSULB post). But my top choice is tied between CSUSB and CSULA. Both are quarter system which I love but both are far. I am leaning towards CSUSB because they are opposite direction to me so it wont be hard to get there or the surrounding clinical sites. CSULA is nice because the train is next to my house. I am not really going to be picky on a account of all three of these schools are competitive and I will be forever grateful to be accepted to anyone of them.
Honestly your grades are stellar, your score is stellar, save your money, you will get in.
    Good luck
  6. Hi BeachBedhead,

I read on another post that CSULA looks at BOTH your TEAS score and takes the best points from both. SO, you will get 4 points for your english and 4 points for reading (if what i read is correct).

I plan to apply to SDSU, CSUSB, CSUB, CSUS, SFSU, CSULB and CSULA so 7 schools total.

I want to go to CSULB so that I can commute! Hopefully you will get in at CSULA so you can too. Saves money from housing!

I know what post you were talking about, he was wrong. They take the better assessment, regardless of how the other one was. It's ok, I have come to terms with it.
All I want is to get one little acceptance to SOMEWHERE and honestly I don't care where!
You applied to a lot of schools. If I had the sweet ability to move, then I would have applied to more, but alas I don't.
From what you say, you will probably get into most if not all of them.
Let me know if you get anything from CSULA though this thread, ill keep bumping It up. if we made it this far, then we are doing good because we would have been denied already if something got screwed up, (had a friend denied a few days after she applied due to taking a pre req and failing twice). So that's good news!
I just need to get enough $$ to send those stupid teas scores in. What a rip off...
  8. Yes it is a good sign that none of our apps were invalid cause of a mistake we made! And I agree, 25$ for a transcript is a rip offffff. and I have to send it to 6 schools total! I already spent like $350 applying to 6 universities, $100 on college transcripts (I went to three colleges total to complete my pre reqs), $40 for the teas study guide, and $165 to take the teas (65$ x 2 at Csula, 35$ at Csulb). I wouldn't have enrolled to take my teas a third time at Csulb but I didnt receive my scores for the second time I took the teas (the one I got a 88.7 on) until after I signed up to retake it. so at the time I had a 76% and was in need to raise it. the teas is a non refundable fee so I have to retake it -.- hopefully my score will be higher the third time.
  9. oh damn that sucks! I HIGHLY recommend to take a CNA class while you wait and possibly get a job. It will help tremendously in clinicals. And it will also give you the upper hand at CSULB since a lot of those students have no experience because they are highly dependent on grades to get in. Trust me on this, a lot of people see what you do as a CNA (not volunteering, not even close to what you ACTUALLY do) and it turns them off nursing and that can always free up a spot into to programs for people who actually want to be there!
Then there are those who do nursing anyway and think they will never wipe an a$$ in their career and are in for a rude awakening...and end up hating their job.....
Just my advice, honestly it will help you! Good luck taking your CSULB TEAS, when do you take it?
  10. Arent cna classes expensive though? and I take it next Friday. I don't have much time to prepare for it because I have a final tomorrow, 2 Monday, and 2 Thursday.
