This is bad new. I called yesterday and asked about the interviews, and they said interviews have not started yet. I thought something was wrong. How did you hear about this? - Jul 18, '12 by nursie_nursie_415I heard there were over 5,000 applicants for this new grad program. Because of this, they limited potential hires to those with MSN, which brought the number down to 1,000. Then, the program further limited applicants by requiring a minimum GPA of 3.5 or something like that. When I heard this, I was in total shock & still somewhat in disbelief. Can anyone confirm or dispel this rumor? Is their new grad program really canceled? I'd like to know because I am trying to help 2 of my friends get their 1st RN job...
- Jul 18, '12 by Tinkerbell04I spoke with HR today, and they said that the new grad program was postponed, not cancelled. IDK!

If this hospital has "postponed this program...they may be in financial trouble. I will pray that they don't and you all get the training and fobs that you need. Do they offer a position after the program is complete? - Jul 19, '12 by Dana1969Having an MSN will make absolutely no difference in hiring. Washington tried an all MSN new grad class once, and it did not end well. I doubt if they will make THAT mistake again. An ADN/BSN/MSN with no bedside nursing experience is still just a new grad RN with no experience. IMO it takes more than just the much lamented "One Year of Med-Surg Experience" to produce a safe, professional RN.
The Fall 2012 New Grad class HAS BEEN CANCELED/POSTPONED/SUSPENDED/CUT. However you wish to label it, it isn't going to happen. Not this year, and probably not for a long time.
Washington Hospital will shortly follow the example of other area hospitals (like Sutter and Muir), in announcing staff cuts to be made up of voluntary retirements for senior nurses, and LAYOFFS for junior nurses. They have already (quietly) started layoffs in some departments.
Perhaps it's the financial strain of helping to keep St Rose Hospital in Hayward afloat (millions given in loans...). Or maybe it's just the enormous numbers of uninsured (coming from all over the world) who have made Washington their prefered (and free) provider. BUT THE PARTY IS OVER!
Washington Hospital is in Code Blue status!Esme12 likes this.
