Have been looking around and haven't really seen a topic on this yet. This is my dream school/program. I am from Seattle so I am having to get a lot of info from them long-distance instead of going to an information session. Has anyone gone to an information session yet?

Hey everyone! New to the forum and just wanted to say hi and that I'm in the same boat as the rest of you. Applied a couple days ago and preparing for the long wait for decisions. From everything I gathered at the info session and talking with the admissions coordinators, a greater emphasis is placed on the SOP, Prereqs, and experience. I went to UCLA for my undergrad as a transfer student but had health problems and underwent 3 surgeries and my grades suffered as a result. I talked with the admin coordinators and asked if I could still apply because I was below a 3.0 for my undergrad and they said that they take into account any extenuating circumstances that may have occurred and I wasn't disqualified from applying to the program (even though a 3.0 gpa is listed for the grad division req's. I have a 4.0 in my prereqs, EMT cert, AHA BLS instructor, personal trainer, and a lot of outreach and volunteer experience. I'm crossing my fingers that they don't dismiss me solely on my undergrad because of my lower gpa. From what they've told me it sounds like they look at an applicant on a more comprehensive basis than just picking out one or two areas that an applicant may show excellence in (hopefully in my case). Plus the SOP was sort of an open forum to explain or clarify anything that may be interpreted out of context or without an explanation/validation. I'm hoping the keep the cohort at 90 like they had last year instead of 60 like the previous years and (like most of you have said because this forum seems to be pretty dead compared to the years before), there aren't as many applicants. I'll be checking into this forum regularly from now on so I'll try and keep in touch as much as possible. Also, at the info session it was made pretty clear that they don't want more than one (two max) outstanding prereqs by the end of the year in order to be considered for acceptance. I hope everyone is either done with or wrapping up their prereqs. Best of luck to all of you!

Nice to see fellow Bruins aboard! I'm glad you were able to pull through even with everything that's happened! Thanks for the information! I had no idea that they were strict on prerequisites being completed. I'm taking micro right now and I'll be finished in Dec. Then I still have speech and epidemiology to take, but from my understanding, epidemiology can be taken in the summer before classes start.

But yeah, hopefully the lack of activity on the forums means that the applicant pool isn't as large as in previous years. (probably little correlation, more wishful thinking haha)

Yeah, almost everyone takes epidemiology in the summer so it's not a big deal if you haven't taken it because pretty much nobody has yet. You're totally fine with prereqs if all you need is speech after the new year. They just don't want someone who has more than one of the basic core science prereqs still outstanding when it comes time to make decisions.

Hmm... I was told I had to have prerequisites done by the time I applied. Anyways I finished all the prereqs so I'm hoping that's a good thing.

I still have stats, epidemiology and speech to take, so hopefully they don't frown TOO much on that! I did well several upper level math courses, so perhaps they'll not need to worry about my stats course :p

Does anyone have an idea about when they send out info/decisions?

I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this thread! I submitted my application last week and i'm going to be nervous all the way to March! I'm also a ucla undergrad with a mediocre undergrad gpa. I'm hoping that my years of working in a hospital and volunteer experience make up for my gpa. :)

I think they send out the acceptance decisions in mid March. Be sure to send your transcripts after you complete your course so they have an up to date application. I think at the info session they said they wait until after the winter holidays to start reviewing the applications.

Hello everyone! I was just wondering if anyone from the Monterey/Santa Cruz area has applied. I would like to meet up with someone and talk about nursing, applications, etc because I haven’t met anyone pursuing the Master’s route. Let me know, and good luck to everyone!

I received a confirmation email regarding my classes in progress/transcripts. It also confirmed that my application is now complete.

Now I just have to wait until mid March...:yeah:
