UC Davis Medical Center RN Residency Summer/Fall 2018

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey my fellow new grad nurses! I just wanted to start a thread for those applying to the UC Davis RN Residency program for the August and October 2018 start dates. The application opens May 2-9. Let's keep each other updated and informed about our application/interview processes and for any additional info you may receive from other sources about the residency program (i.e. people who work there, if you did clinicals there, any info you receive from nursing recruitment).

Good luck to you all in your new grad RN job search!!! :nailbiting:

I was able to speak with nurse recruitment and they were quick to answer the phone and very willing to help and answer my questions. Here's what they told me:

There will be one posting for all of us to apply to. Their goal is to "extend your clinical preceptorship into a new graduate role." So this means they will look at your senior preceptorship and forward your application to the hiring manager of a unit most similar to your clinical preceptorship and/or externship if you had one. I'm not sure what happens if your school didn't offer you a senior preceptorship rotation though.

All documents that are uploaded (Resume, cover letter, transcripts) should be combined into one document for uploading.

I asked which critical care units would be taking new graduates this round, and he was unable to answer at this time. But he said that is the reason for having two start dates (Aug and Oct). Some units may not be able to take new grads in August but can do so in October. Not sure how that changes the interview timelines or if we'll all be interviewed around the same time if we make it to that point. It sounds like it is unit specific once we reach that part in the application process.

They've posted a clinical experience table example on their website and would like us to format our clinical experiences that way on each of our resumés, so make those adjustments whenever you get a chance if it doesn't already look like that.

Hope this helps!!

Does anyone know how many positions are available/ which units are open?

Nurse Recruitment was unwilling to disclose this info to me. They stated their "needs change all the time, which is why there are two cohort start dates." They did however make it seem like they would be hiring for quite a few units/positions between the August/October start dates! Sorry if this doesn't help much

I totally understand, I was just hoping someone heard through the grapevine! Last I heard, the April cohort had only 4 positions for critical care and 600+ applications. It's so competitive!

Wow those are some daunting stats! Hoping there's more this go round!! :/ Are you a local applicant? Please keep us updated if you hear anything else :)

I have been "routed" as well... Wondering if this just means some applications, in general, have been routed or ours specifically have been? Trying not to check every day but its so hard not to!
