Thousands of people in Southern California, including many Registered Nurses, their families, and other health care workers, are suffering dramatic impacts from the terrible firestorms wracking every county in the region. The California Nurses Association extends our deepest sympathy with those affected by these disasters.

CNA is preparing to assist both our members and the general public as relief efforts begin. We are taking the following steps:

1) CNA has contacted the Governor's office to offer our assistance and learn how we and our members can help.

2) There is now a need for Psychiatric Nurses and Mental Health Professionals

to aid in counseling those suffering loss and trauma. People with experience in crisis intervention, grief counseling and post traumatic stress disorder management are particularly needed.

The California Nurses Association is currently working with the Red Cross in organizing a Red Cross Disaster Training for Nurses in the Southern California area. Registered Nurses or Mental Health Professionals from California or surrounding states who wish to volunteer in the relief effort or wish to participate in the disaster training should contact:

Jill Furillo, RN at 818 637-7154 or via email at [email protected]

Please provide the following information:

oYour Name

oAddress

oPhone number

oNursing Specialty

oAvailability (Dates and Days)

3) We are in the process of coordinating nurse to nurse relief efforts in affected areas. If you want to help, please send an email with your contact information and how you can help to [email protected]

4) We have contacted hospitals in the affected areas to offer our assistance in helping with the impact of the crisis on the hospitals' ability to provide needed patient care.

The California Nurses Association extends our best wishes to all those who live or work in the affected areas, and pledge our support in efforts to provide relief to those suffering under the terrible impact of these firestorms
