Sutter Sacramento STRONG Program

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience with Sutter's STRONG program? What kind of interview questions do they ask? What's the program like?

Thanks for any response!

Same question. About to graduate and have an interview set up with them. Any helpful tips regarding interviewing or a description of the RN STRONG program (the website is pretty sporifice) would be much appreciated.

Specializes in ER.

How'd you guys actually manage to get an interview with them? I've applied countless times, but am always rejected :( Maybe because I'm from out of state? Are you guys local? Do have an ADN or BSN? Just looking for insight!

BSN and I'm local. I actually emailed with a question and got a response before I even put in my resume. I'd suggest doing that.

I got countless rejection emails from them as well so I called because I felt that I was a very qualified candidate. They told me that they have a grant that requires them to basically only choose those who attended school in the Sacramento area. Because they legally can't exclude anyone from applying, they made it open to everyone. But really anyone who applied from out of area was just applying in vain. Super frustrating.

I graduated from a Sacramento area school and I haven't gotten a call for any of the positions posted for the last 2 rounds of the STRONG program, so don't feel too bad. It's open for only a very few positions and you're not just competing with hundreds of applicants equally either. I know for a fact there are "insiders" who get selected as well, meaning, they have connections within recruitment. Then those that are connected (family friends, etc) bring in a person or two that they're friends with from their graduating class.

Other than that, it seems to be a lotta luck. If I could do school all over again, I would work sooo much harder at trying to make friends and network at the facilities you do clinical rounds in. Get to know the managers and express interest in working there. It's stuff they never go over in school, though I wish they did. The market is so saturated and cold to new grads and schools kinda throw you out there unprepared for what you need to do to get your career started, i.e. pretty much give up on starting at a hospital, unless you've got an "in," and start at a SNF. It's stuff I'm having to learn on my own, and thankfully, through this great site.

I live in Sac and grew up here but went to school back east. I received a rejection almost immediately, so I am 100% convinced that they didn't even review my application. Most likely because I didn't go to school in the area. This is beyond frustrating as I spent quite a bit of time perfecting my cover letter, etc. They aren't doing anyone any favors by opening the application to everyone and then automatically rejecting us. That's so much worse than just telling us not to apply. What a waste of our time.

P.S. Others have mentioned a grant that only accepts local students - I completely believe that. I'm friends with an RN employed there and have a family friend that knows the CEO of Sutter. Even that didn't help me.

Had my "interview" yesterday. Its not really an interview. If you've got "rejected" its fine. Apparently, this is just a warm-up. The real positions will be posted at the end of December. I was told to watch the website and apply then.

Daisy_M- Good luck on getting to the next step! Did you get any more information about the STRONG program? What type of questions do they ask? Sorry for all of the questions. I'm just not clear how it all works.

Daisy_M, could you share any more details regarding your interview? Even if it was more of a "warm up". I have an interview with the recruiter for the RN Strong program next week and it would be nice to know what to prepare for.

It wasn't an interview. It was more of a "meet and greet." They don't interview you, they just give you tips and advice on what to do and how you can better polish your resume for when the STRONG program opens up. If you want to know about specific details, message me for more info.
