Sharp Memorial ... Thoughts?

  1. I am contemplating a travel assignment at Sharp Memorial in San Diego. Does anyone have input regarding the hospital? And if yes, specifically the Emergency Dept? Would appreciate any thoughts!

    THANKS.

i don't have any experience with the ER, but a friend works at sharp as a nurse & absolutely LOVES it. my uncle is a respiratory therapist there & has been for 15 or 20 years & he loves it as well. i work in the administration building since i'm waiting to get into nursing school & i absolutely love it here. employee satisfaction is high & management is really supportive & involved & they really try hard to be a great place to work (in my opinion).

the only crappy thing about memorial is that parking is in short supply & you have to pay something like $2/day to park on the campus, but if you park at qualcomm stadium & take a shuttle to the campus (about a 15 min ride, i hear) they pay YOU $5/day.

anyway, i would DEFINITELY want to work for sharp memorial once i graduate nursing school.

I havent worked there, but I worked at Childrens in an admin capacity (right next door) and both my mom and grandma have been pts there. Highly recommended, and in fact im in school hoping to be a sharp nurse starting in 09. My only neg experience was in the ER, when I brought my mom in for chest pain and SOB at 3am, and the triage nurse didnt even look up from what she was doing, just raised one finger in a 'just a minute' motion. This didnt sit well after just having made a 20 minute drive in about 8 minutes. I was panicked and that didnt help, but her attitude was not appreciated. She should have at least looked to see what the status was. As far as neg experiences go, it was pretty mild.

Parking is a huge pain, btw, but it is possible to find street parking at certain times a day...after 9am its nearly impossible.

Actually, I was a patient there. In the ER and floor. I dont remember too much bc i was doped up, but as far as a pt point of view I was impressed. ER-Very kind staff, all the way around. Considerate of my situation and pain. Attended to me in a timely manner.

    Floor nurses were great too.

Only issue was with the PACU nurses who had american idol blasting in the background as I was recovering, and talking realllly loud. I wanted to hurt them.

I want to move to SD and would consider working there.
