Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

I haven't found a thread for this yet, so I figured I would start one! I am applying in August, after I have my grades from my summer courses. I was wondering what stats other applicants have as well :) I still have to complete human physio lab, general chem and lab, nutrition, and psych so I am not sure if I will get in this time around, but it can't hurt to apply!

Pervious major: Cell and Molecular Biology

Last 60 GPA: 3.4

Prereq GPA (so far): 3.9

TEAS Adjusted Individual Score: 92.7%

TEAS National and Program Percentile Rank: 99

Im excited to connect with other prospective students :)

CaptainBW - Thanks for the information! Did you feel prepared after the course? Are you currently working? Do they assist with placements?

CaptainBW - Can you tell us what breaks you had between sessions (ie. when those breaks were)? I have kids so just want to plan ahead a bit for childcare coverage. I'm sure, assuming I get in, I'll learn all that stuff during orientation sessions, but I tend to be overly organized and like to get a jump start on such planning. :)

Hi tlsmith29,

The academic calendar for Summer 2013 ABSN (Oakland) is on the SMU site. Here's the link: Academic Calendar | Samuel Merritt University

Thanks! Silly me for not thinking to just check the website! :)

No problem, tlsmith29. Are you waiting to hear from Oakland (ABSN Summer)?

Captainbuttwipe - are your clinicals two eight hour or twelve hour shifts? Are you at hospitals like John Muir, Alta Bates and Kaiser Walnut Creek, etc? Out of all the professors you've had so far, how would you rate them? Do they have high expectations, though good mentors, teach with flair (or fun :))? Hopefully, not many duds... Feel free to share more on your perspective and what to expect.

Thanks again.

Hi yedwards42 - Yes, I am waiting to hear from Oakland (ABSN summer). I was really torn between Oakland and San Mateo. I prefer the choice of hospitals for San Mateo clinicals, but I had to be realistic about a daily commute across the bridge. :) Of course, if admissions decide to put me in the SM cohort instead, I'll take it! :) Which cohort are you waiting to hear about?

Hi tlsmith29,

I'm also waiting to hear from Oakland. I'm closer to Oakland so it's a shorter commute for me. For April (San Mateo) I did inquire and the clinicals are mostly in S.F. at hospitals (the gal named a few): CPMC, San Francisco General, and Mills Penninsula. I've heard from other posters about Oakland and the hospitals are usually - John Muir, Kaiser - Walnut Creek, and Alta Bates. Someone also said San Ramon Regional. All these are good hospitals. Samuel Merritt is an affiliate of Sutter Health - which CPMC and Alta Bates are among the best in the area.

Me too yedwards42 - also waiting to hear back regarding the Oakland cohort. :) Thanks for the info. :) Good luck!

Awesome - good luck to you also! It would be great to both be in the same cohort. :)

Yes. It would be great! Oh the waiting game. A few more weeks to go!!

The waiting is so hard! I've even taken to reviewing notes from anatomy and physio and writing up a notebook of condensed notes from those classes...hopefully it will keep the material fresh in my brain and give me a quick reference guide if I need it. :)

I ditto the wait is hard! Going into the six month following the deadline of 9/1... Well, here's to hoping we all receive (good) acceptance news for SMU ABSN - Oakland in the next few weeks.
