Overall G.P.A. = 3.5

Teas= 84.1

1 year of healthcare experience

1 year of nursing school experience

Multiple community involvement experiences- ERG's, Volunteer on Diversity teams, Church, internships, mentoring, tutoring

*Hoping that this may be the year because I'm going no where fast in my current job field and I want to return to a profession that I have a passion for and am good at!!

=)

I was wondering that too, I think that as long as you meet all requirements and have what they are looking for you are good. You are the first person that I have read that has chosen San Mateo as their first choice. I picked Sacramento for my first choice. I was wondering if anyone has heard of anyone else applying to the ELMN FNP program. I have not read anything on that and I haven't been able to find anything online like a blog about it.

I haven't read anything on it either. I would hope they choose the highest grade, BUT for timing purposes, it would seem the chose the last grade on the transcript to be more efficient.

Hello all! I just stumbled on this site and it's so helpful to hear all this great information from all the people applying to SMU.

I applied to the San Mateo Spring 2011 ABSN cohort at 11:50 on June 30th :b (I was rewriting my personal statement for the millionth time!) I'm so glad at least the application part of the process is done!

Here are my stats:

Science G.P.A.= 4.0 (but currently taking my last class - Microbio)

Overall G.P.A. = 3.37

Teas= 92.9 (97.5 - Reading, 100 - Math)

lots of healthcare volunteer experience (ER, hearing screener at Lucile Packard, research assistant)

lots regular volunteer experience (anatomy teaching assistant, + lots more)

Does anyone know when we're supposed to hear back? We still all need to reapply September 1st, right?

Good luck to all of you!

Hi, What do you mean we need to reapply by September 1?

hi. welcome! great stats btw.

i am pretty sure we are supposed to hear something back in october. i am not sure about that september 1st application date? anyone???

Hi, What do you mean we need to reapply by September 1?

I think what the person meant was that there is another cycle we could apply to that is due Sept. 1 for the SMU Oakland, San Mateo, and SF campuses. Back then, if we are waitlisted for this cycle, they send a slip along with the message to reapply for the following cycle (which in this case would be Sept. 1). I don't think we would hear back from the July 1 cycle before Sept. 1st comes. It does take them normally about 3 months before they start sending things out, but since they're using the new CAS system, it might be a bit faster? Anyone want to find out for us when to expect to hear back from SMU? :)

The only thing I know about september is that there is another cohort that starts next June and the application date for that is September 1

Hi all,

I was curious if the GPA calculations done match what you expect them to be, specifically the bottom of the "GPA calculation" page that lists your schools?

Hi there. When I applied to the San Mateo cohort that starts in January, I also added the 3 summer cohorts (San Mateo, SF, & Oakland). It only charged me $45 to apply to all 4. I am going to follow up with SMU to make sure that is how it is supposed to be done. Under "designations," there is a different selection for each cohort; therefore, I was able to add the other 3. Does this make sense? If not, let me know.

I'm confused with NursingCAS's calculation of all those different GPAs. I was told my the admissions rep for Sacramento that they only are interested in your last 60 credits. NursingCAS doesn't even calculate a separate category for that. If you look at my last 60 credits, I have a 4.0, but if you take into consideration all my stuff, it's not as good.

I was confused about the GPA also. When I called SMU admissions, a woman told me that they calculate the GPA for the last 60 themselves, but she also told me they look at the overall GPA. She said that as far as the GPA goes, the last 60 is the main thing they are looking at. Hope this helps.

hi rjcurran - i saw on the on the smu website that you only apply to one cohort - http://www.samuelmerritt.edu/nursing/abs_nursing/requirements:

under application deadlines

*please submit only one application for your first choice campus if applying for the spring or summer absn admission cycle.
