Saddleback Nursing School, Spring 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi all!

I am a pre-nursing student getting ready to put in my applications for Spring 2013. I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me a general idea of what Saddleback College's Nursing program is like? I really would like to get a sense of what the curriculum will be like, how much time might be devoted to studying outside of class, the amount of hours spent in clinicals, etc. Of course everyone's experience is different, but if I could get some perspective as to what I may be facing in the next few years I think I would be better prepared to tackle the challenge. I have a preschool-age son now, and by Spring 2013 I will have a baby daughter as well, so I would like to wrap my head around what my school commitment will look like and plan in advance for the amount/type of help I will need for my family. Thanks for your time in advance!

Also, I am hearing that some have got in with lower points than me (I got 64) and I got all A's in my pre-req bios with a 2.91 GPA. I wonder if I filled out the application incorrectly or they didn't tally my points correctly. Ugh :(

ctgangel. Congrats to you. Are you an LVN, EMT, PM, CNA, or medical military with 1000+ hrs by chance? Maybe that's why they let you in because I think you get an extra 12 or an extra 8 if your a medical assistant or something with so many hrs work. Just trying to figure out why I didn't get in or even on the alt list because I have 64pts and all A's in my bio most pre-reqs. Thank you

Hi dazzlechunk,

I think i did end up getting 12 points somehow. I also have a high gpa overall. My bios were two A's and one B. I averaged about 60 but i think i ended up with 72. If your in the first pool you have a good chance of getting in still i believe. My friend was in the first pool last semester and she got in. They say that 67 and above may get you in but that 72 and above gives you a higher chance of getting in. Have you taken all of the pre reqs? or i should say extra classes? ex. pharm, lifecycles 1,2 and nursing concepts?

hope that helps. i know it can be daunting.

Hi ctgangel,

Thanks for getting back to me. Good to know. I am actually taking Pharm right now and I still need to take lifecycle 1 (I took all the rest). Do you happen to know what the 1st pool means and how many people are in it? Silly question I know. Lol

@MusicEMT Don't worry, we'll get in when its our time. I know, I was bummed when I got my letter too.

Hi again,I am actually in pharm now too. I am in ---------'s class. Which class are you in? I am not sure how many people are in the first pool honestly. I wish I had an answer. But your letter is not a denial, you may still get in. You should get pharm and the lifecycles class done that's an additional 8 Pts that should push you over and help you get in. You've taken nursing concepts too??

Hi, I'm in ---------'s class. That's true, if I don't get in this time then I should have 72 points for the fall. No, I haven't taken Nursing Concepts yet. At least it's not mandatory to take it to get into the program I think? But if I don't get in I may take it anyway while I'm waiting. I'm taking 1 or 2 classes at a time because I have a toddler and a 7yr old to watch during the day. I mainly study at night. I think I slept about 3 hrs last night. Lol. But it will all be worth it.

Awe very neat. When you apply next year out that you are in progress that may help too when your in the nursing concepts class :) keep your head up. I work full time and have been since I started my pre Reqs . I'm scared of quitting and not having any $$

the application period for Cerritos closed sept 10th.. Oct 1st is for those who applied to submit their paperwork.. i have to go sometime this week and do that

Santa Ana has a massive wait list for the next 2-3 years i think? i dunno they might have updated it

Oh bummer, I should have applied to Cerritos. I did call santa ana, golden west, etc around the time I applied for saddleback and they weren't accepting or were on hold. I think some of them are changing over to the point system and trying to get the wait listed people in first. It's very competitive to get into most nursing programs unless you have lots of money (or student loan) and can afford to go to private college or Concordia. I don't, so I think I will wait for Saddleback. That's good that you applied for Cerritos, I didn't know they had the program there.
