Sac State Fall 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. California

Hello Everyone,

I am about to send in my application to CSU Sacramento for Fall 13 and was wondering if there are any other people in the same predicament. Would love love to hear your experiences as well.

I really think we will all be ok! I think I am just worried about the what if. Positive thoughts brings positive results. So we just have to keep up the encouraging "talk" and try to pass the time the best we can. Soon enough we will know and we can celebrate after the long anticipated results!!

It is crazy how difficult it is to get classes. I too had problems getting classes at CRC. It took me longer too because I had another baby in between my pre reqs so it pushed me back two semesters. So, here I am....finally! I will be 30 this year and would love to be in my career before I'm 35! Lol.

I need to keep up an optimistic attitude like you. Okay, yes I am going to get in. I am just freaking out for no reason. Ok I feel a little better now lol.

Well since we both have decided that we are going to get in then I'm sure u will get into your career before 35. I hope the job market clears up a little by the time we graduate.

Lol, I keep telling myself to be positive! You and I both know the doubt creeps in and is a total buzz kill!

And yes, we need to hope and pray we are offered positions while in the program because I hear the job hunt is exhausting if you do not get offered a job immediately!

That would be so amazing to have a job even before graduation. Now that would be the ultimate satisfaction for all our hard work. I am just so excited to start my career in nursing. Not sure if asked this already but do u have any ideas on what type of nursing u would like your first job to be?

I think we did briefly. I would like to start off in trauma and then work towards becoming a CRNA. How about you?

I'm not sure! It seems like I change my mind everyday because I have so many interests in nursing. I think women's health is where my main interest is though. And I also want to go on to advanced nursing, but for me I'm interested in the nurse practitioner route.

Well we're both going to get into this program, and then we're both going to land our dream jobs. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it!

Sounds like a wonderful plan! ;-)

Stay positive! The points cutoff in the fall (13) was 62. It was lower in the spring (13) due to only accepting SacState students. They don't publish results during closed admission so I don't know the actual cut-off.

Also, the point total has only gone up by 2 each of the last 3-4 semesters so more than likely the cutoff for this fall is going to be in the 60's; NOT 70's and 80's like some of you are worried about. Obviously I don't know for sure but logically I can't imagine it taking that kind of jump. :-)

Last point: I know that it would feel terrible for many of you to be placed on the waiting list BUT keep in mind that most semesters they take alternates in the high 30's and 40's. One of my closest friends was number 39 on the alternate list and she is doing great in the program.

Vintage swagger- you are so encouraging. I think i am mostly stressed because I know the initial cut off for last fall was 69, meaning that the 1st 80 to be accepted had 69 or more. And now there were a hundred more applicants than usual! So that initial cut off is bound to go up who knows how much. I feel that myself as well as everyone else that has posted on here will at the least make it on to the wait list and eventually get in. And I feel that those who have points in the 80's will have an automatic in.

I am not completely against being on the waiting list. For a program that only accepts 80 students I know getting on the wait list is quite successful. To be honest most of my anxiety stems from family pressure. My mom calls me and bugs me all the time about it even when I told her I won't be finding out for another few weeks! I just don't want to disappoint anybody.

Hi guys, I was wondering if someone has any idea of what they are looking for when they meant health-related work experience. I am currently looking to apply Fall '14 and I have begun volunteering at the local hospital's outpatient surgery and procedure center. The tasks mainly involve taking care of paperwork and greeting patients who come in. Would that count as human-client interaction or should I try and see if I could get my hours somewhere else?

Hi Georgettes,

I definitely got the impression that they want patient interaction so the greeting part, i would think, would be okay but no the paperwork. I have volunteered at a primary care clinic for the last year+. I do follow-up on "high risk" cases, like breast mass diagnoses, by calling patients to remind them to get their mammograms, etc. I thought that would count but none of the nursing programs I mentioned it to seemed impressed. By doing this office work, I do "earn" the chance to shadow the doctors, NPs and PAs. People I talked with DID like that so I've learned to stress that in my interviews/essays. I guess they want you to have seen medicine in action (and even better, helped out).

I'm sure others will have more information for you but that's my two cents.
