I applied to all of them hahaha! I think I got rejected from Oncology and CVICU

Well good luck on the rest! I was disappointed to read (either on this thread or the others? I don't remember) that if we didn't go to school in Sac or the surrounding areas we have very little chance of getting selected. I'm from the Bay Area sooooooo I'm going to just take this one as a loss right now. Onward!

I went to Sac State and this is my second time applying. Apparently we're supposed to make an appointment with HR first. So I feel like this is already a loss for me too

Are they sending rejection emails or actual letters? Not that it matters much, just curious. I didn't meet with HR either so....

Specializes in General Surgery.

I think they send out a general email saying that the position "has been filled or is no longer available." I have got two of these emails for the CVIU and Tele CVIU limited term positions. I'm waiting on those ER positions! You would think they would make some moves soon because the program is supposed to start in June which is coming up fast!

It is true that you need to make an appointment to meet with the senior recruiters to be considered. I would call and make an appointment ASAP because the sheer amount of people they have to meet with doesn't give them much time to see everyone quickly. I think I called mid to late December (2012) and wasn't able to get an appointment until late Feb this year.

The next cohort is supposed to be in October which might be a better time for those who are already licensed since there are no nursing schools graduating at that time.

They already held interviews for the only position that was offered at Sutter Roseville and they should be making a decision by the end of this week.

Thanks for all the info bigsick_littlesick! I applied for neuro but haven't heard anything yet. I really thought they would've done or at least scheduled their interviews by now since June is right around the corner. Crossing my fingers for you that you're able to get an interview in ER!

I think I'm giving up on Sutter. I called them and they told me "ignore it" and that everything I need to know is on the website, when I told them I had been hearing about the need to make an appointment with HR or a recruiter. So, I'm not sure what exactly is going on. Oh well, congrats to all that get hired!

It seems like most hospitals' unit managers already have a strong idea of who they want to hire (even before spots open up) based on the students who precepted there. Not only NorCal hospitals but definitely in the SoCal hospitals as well, and they have many more new grad residencies than up here. I mean, I get that-- since the managers have seen the nursing students "in action". Of course it's nice to have a job offer after performing well during preceptorship. It makes sense but at the same time, it closes the doors of *many* potentially great new nurses eager to put to use everything they've learned in nursing school.

I don't know exactly what roles the nurse recruiters play in this RN Strong program, like whether meeting them guaranteed your application would be forwarded to a specific unit manager. It just seems so shady in the grand scheme of things because nowhere was that public knowledge. It's really sad that there's no transparency in the hiring process of new grads. *end rant* sigh...

Look what I found on the Sutter RN Strong site.

They state that they consider you only if you are in the greater Sacramento and foothill area! I hope this is not true because I interviewed in January and was not chosen. A new set of RN Strong jobs opened and I have been called for a med/surge interview. I hope it is not an oversight on their part that they did not notice that the school I went to is not in Sacramento. I went to Samuel Merritt University but at the San Mateo location. There is a SMU in Sacramento but I did not attend that one. But I hope it's not an oversight because I clearly state on my resume where I went to school and where I did my clinicals. I am hoping I get this offer for med/surge. The first interview was for the CVIU, which I knew nothing about and had not clinical or preceptorship time dealing strictly with cardio. That may be a reason why I wasn't chosen because one of the panel members told me I did very well answering questions. I do live in Sacramento though, so I am not sure if that is leading to confusion but I hope they aren't wasting my time and didn't realize I didnt go to school in Sacramento and figure it out during the interview and then disqualify me.

Has anyone inquired about this with RN Strong? If I do not get offered the Med/Surge job I will ask them if they are only considering those who went to school in Sacramento and foothill area.
