RN Refresher Course in Southern California

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi Everyone!

I am looking for a RN refresher course around San Diego and Los Angeles area. I have inquired few schools listed on the CA BON that offer the course. Since I'm unemployed, I need an affordable 10-12 week course that includes theory and clinical & I don't want to take it online.

List of schools I have inquired:

-Grossmont Health Occupation Center in Santee offers an affordable course, but it's 16-weeks long.

-Cal State San Marcos no longer offers the course.

-UCSD Extension is expensive just for the theory portion.

-CA School of Health Sciences offers a 9-day theory course & is expensive.

Anyone who has taken an RN refresher within San Diego and Los Angeles, please give me information. I will truly appreciate it. I really really hope to hear from you! I'm so desperate for information because I need to take a refresher course.

I have to comment and say that I started taking the course at Santa Ana College and I guess you get what you pay for. It's basically working by yourself and you just go when you want. I didn't like it because I need a more structured course. The instructor was never available when I needed her just to ask a simple question because she might be busy with another student. I didn't feel I was getting any type of good re-entry education with this course so I dropped the class. It sounds like Azusa Pacific is a really good choice. It's too bad it's a little far for me.

ok, it's official. southern california, you do have a option for a rn refresher course that includes clinical fulfillment!

grossmont health occupations has stepped to the plate to meet the rn refresher needs in california. with expansion of available courses, there are now 5 courses available yearly as long as the minimal attendance requirements for each class are fulfilled!!

the rn refresher program at grossmont health occupations has been helping rn's return to nursing for decades. it is taught by nurses who concurrently work hands on in local hospitals. the instructors: one is a graduate of the ucsd refresher program, and another is a graduate of the program itself. your instructors are familiar with the difficulties of returning to active employment from your point of view!

Hi

I am a RN, in southern California, on probationary status that is required to take an RN refresher course with a clinical. All refresher courses that I have seen state that you have active license without probationary status. Does anyone know of a program that will allow probationary RN in their program?

I realize this is an old post, but I'm replying for any nurses seeking a refresher course. Be careful with Azusa Pacific. With only 2 more clinicals left, we learned that the contracted hospital did not sign its contract with APU. We should have finished 3 weeks ago. Now we're in limbo. The program has been excellent, but if you are considering paying $1220, make sure APU has a signed contract.

I need your help please! I am a former RN with an expired license over 10 years. I am required to take a refresher course and retake the NCLEX (Obviously) because it has been so long. I haven't found a refresher course that takes RNs without an active RN. I wasn't ever planning on going back to nursing due to two back injuries and severe Fibromyalgia. Divorce has a way of changing life's plans. I need to take a refresher course because all my years in the ER at LAC-USC Medical Center, we never dealt with medical pediatric patients or OB/GYN unless there was trauma involved. They had their own ER they were sent to back in the days. I hope someone out there has some ideas please. Thank you for your time.
