RN Refresher Course-CSUSM or UCSD??

U.S.A. California

Published

Anyone out there that could share any experiences with the nursing re-entry courses at either Cal State San Marcos or through the UCSD extension courses? I'm considering enrolling in one or the other if I can't get into a new grad program this winter since I've been out of school for a few years now. I figure anything might help-the job market for new grads or those with just a little experience is SO limited!! I'm getting very discouraged!

Thanks in advance, I hope there's someone out there with some input!

I am now in your boat. I am considering one of these courses. Is there anyone w/ experience re; CSU or UCSD refresher courses? I could use the input

Specializes in LTC, Med/Surg, Psych, Regulatory.

I am doing the UCSD refresher didactic and preceptorship courses. I highly recommend taking the Cal State San Marcos if you have the dough. CalStateSM costs a lot more money but is better. The UCSD one will look good on resume though.

I've signed up for the one in Temecula through Cal State-San Marcos in Sept. Is anyone else thinking about enrolling? How is it if you've already taken it, did it help with getting a job after you completed it?

I am looking at program in Temecula also and wonder if you have gotten feedback from others who took this refresher. Thank you.

There is another alternative in southern California.

Grossmont Health Occupations

RN Refresher

Santee, CA

CEU: 30

Theory Hours: 135 (7 weeks)

Clinical Hours: 192 (8 weeks)

FEE: $400 (does NOT include books, uniforms, background check, insurance costs)

The RN refresher program at Grossmont Health Occupations has been helping RN's return to nursing for decades. It is taught by nurses who concurrently work hands on in local hospitals. A current instructor for this program is a graduate of the UCSD refresher program.

CSUSM and UCSD are both viable refresher programs within the community. It simply depends on finances, educational desire, and what your overall plans for your career are.

Absolutely. I am not aware of any foreign graduate getting a job without some type of experience. One program that assists foreign licensure and credentialing: http://www.welçomebackcenter.org.

After getting the CA RN license, they participate in a Refreshèr coorifice to prepare for the job market.

Hope this helps.

im in LA county, SD is still too far for me...

do have any idea if i can avail financial assistance/student load for a refresher course?

CSU San Marcos does not currently have a nurse refresher program. I tried looking it up over the weekend but got 'error' pages when I clicked on the link. I called them this morning to find out what's going on. They said the program is being completely revised and they hope to offer it again in the Spring 2012.
