Has anyone ever reported a violation in nurse ratios to the Department of public health? Specifically the at all times rule pertaining to lunches & breaks. I had heard nurses saying they double up for all breaks and nothing is done when they report it. Some had said they went out of ratio while DPHS was on the unit and they went about as if it wasn't an issue. Nurses have also said they never get additional staff for the acuity. The ratios are the maximum and sometimes not even that. I am originally from a union facility where we had 1 break nurse for all shifts but I thought all California hospitals had to comply or be fined. What's the deal around the state.
