Pasadena ADN Fall 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

This will be my first semester applying to ADN programs! I am hoping to move to the Los Angeles area either for nursing school or after it; I just wondered if Pasadena Community College (PCC) gives favor to those already in the LA area. I mean, will they still take my application seriously even if I am in Northern California? I know for their Anesthesia Technician program, they ask for a statement of intent. Is that true for their ADN program?

Also, I took Microbiology 8 years ago (but I took Anatomy & Physiology last year). PCC website says it's "highly recommended" to take it within 5 years. Does anyone know of a case where someone took a science class more than 5 years ago and got in?

Here are my stats:

Overall GPA: 3.1

Science GPA: 3.71 (Micro: B, A&PI: A, A&PII: A)

Non-Science Prerequisite GPA: 4.0

*Need to work

*Veteran/Honorable Discharge

TEAS V: 86%

Yeah that article was written by the Manager of Operations at NLN so I would take it with a grain of salt... Of course they want you to go to a school that has their accreditation...

Oops! Apparently that's just the program accreditation source... But still, I would take it with a grain of salt... NLN is most likely not going to put you in front of a BSN candidate for a job.

Bottom line, I would look at an unbiased source to determine whether NLN accreditation really matters for what you want to do with your nursing degree.

my friend is actually at pasadena 3rd semester and he tells me it's a great school and have wonderful teachers and some of his relatives disagreed about going there because of that accreditation.

i just don't know why people argue about it so much on this website. there's tons of posts on this topic alone. =(

Well, that's too bad his family wasn't totally supportive... When he gets a RN job, they'll see that it doesn't matter...

i read so many forums about nlnac vs non nlnac. pretty much majority said go to an nlnac program because hospitals rather hire a candidate from nlnac approved compared to a non nlnac approved.

and also, nlnac approved programs allow you to continue your education and go for bsn. not non nlnac.

I've spoken with Azusa Pacific and Cal State Long Beach RN-BSN programs and they said it doesn't matter if its NLNAC or non-NLNAC. Units will still transfer over. Schools usually have either NLNAC or CCNE accreditation. They basically said as long as its accredited by the California Board of Nursing that's all that matters.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm glad because I can tell my friend who is a 3rd semester student at Pasadena right now about this. He was worried about what was going to happen with jobs and rn-bsn programs.

I'm pretty sure we've tried to clear this up for you before...

Ok thanks.
