National University SD Accelerated BSN January 2013

U.S.A. California

Hi! I've looked and looked and have not been able to find a dedicated thread for applicants to the accelerated BSN program at National University in San Diego for the January 2013 cohort (cohort 33).

I just took my essay and TEAS exam on Sept. 21st. I'm not sure how well I did on the essay, but I did ok on the TEAS. I guess I'm just looking for other people who has also applied to this program for support as we wait to hear on our applications in October.

Hope to hear from some of you!

That is what the calculation worksheet said. My adviser gave me the calculation worksheet so I could calculate my score to see where I stood. If you need to calculate your GPA so you can calculate your overall science points just do the following: A=4, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3, B-=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2 and C-=1.7. Take your grade and figure out what score they give you multiply it by how many credit hours that class is to get your quality points. Once you have done this for each class, add up all of your quality points and divide that by 22.5 to get your GPA. So if you received an A in A&PI and an A- in A&PI lab, your quality points for the lecture would be 4*4.5=18 quality points and in lab it would be 3.7*1.5=5.55. If anyone needs help calculating what their current score is just let me know. Good luck everyone!

Yes, your new explanation was the one I initially did before asking here at Allnurses and it's the same as calculating the GPA regularly, but the one you said where I have to multiply it by 10 and divide by 28 is not the same as that one, so I got confused. Thanks anyway!

The part where you multiply by 10, divide by 28, and multiple again by 20 is how you determine your science base points for NU.

Let's say you have a 3.84 GPA you would have 41.143 points(3.84*10/28*30=41.143) in the science portion

Hmm. The example for the 3.84 GPA doesn't make sense to me mathematically since only 30 points maximum are given for the Math and Science based questions--it would be wrong to have 41.143 points in that case as it exceeds the points given for that particular part. I'd expect someone with a 3.84 GPA to have less than 30 points (~2.80+, maybe). Only someone with a GPA of 4.00 would get the whole 30 points, which is why I said in my previous post that if that's really the formula for the Math and Science based GPA, then anyone with a GPA of over 2.8 would get more than 30 points since:

2.8*10/28*30 = 30 points

I now know how to properly calculate the points for the TEAS and the science base portion since I spoke to the person in charge. My advisor gave me the wrong calculation worksheet. To calculate your science base points take your GPA multiply it by 10, divide by 40 and multiply it again by 30. To calculate your TEAS points take your score divide it by 100 and multiply it by 30.

Anyone hear anything from National yet? It's now the last week of October. I've been checking my application status online and it still shows "submitted".

I haven't heard anything either. I called and emailed National but I have been having a hard time getting a hold of anybody. Ahhhh I am so nervous! I just want to find out already

I just tried calling to see if we'll still be notified by the end of the month (since tomorrow is the last day of October); however, I got transferred and got a voicemail. I hate to bother, but I may send an email tomorrow if there's still no word. So anxious and nervous!

Just received an email. Guess we won't be knowing until later this week or so since the last of the essay evaluations were just received back today.

@ SammiN: I am so sorry! Just saw your PM today. I tried to respond but I am currently blocked from doing that. Hope you did well!

This is driving me mad! When are these people going to let us know? I called them on Oct 30th and they told me they would let us know by Saturday, then later that day they sent out an email saying it would just be a few days until they had the results. That was 6 days ago and now I feel like a crazy woman (I guess my screen name suits me). Does anyone have more information??.......
