MT SAC FALL 2011 or SPRING 2012

U.S.A. California

K, folks, based on the rumor mill, they had to go over 120+ students to get the 60 they need for Spring 11. So originally I went from 910 back in Fall 2009, to 458 to the Spring in 2010, to 265 this past fall. My guess now is that I'm around the 130 to 140 on the waitlist if the 120+ rumor is correct. Word is they were suppose to mail the letters out this week. Let me know if anyone has any updates or better Intel.

Hey barcode120x... I received my letter today also.. (32 on the waitlist). I actually called last week and she said I should get an acceptance letter this Dec... Idk why I received this letter than. Now I'm confused if I'm in or not. I would give them a call to confirm on Monday.

Cool, lmk what they say.

I think they send this "lottery" letter just to let you know and all the other students know that they are actually doing the drawing for the program. If they never sent this letter, the department would be loaded with "did I get in yet?" calls daily. I was hoping to get the acceptance letter this month instead of the "lottery" letter to have proof, but it doesn't hurt to wait longer. Hopefully it is FOR SURE that we get in for Spring :)

IM IN THE PROGRAM FINALLY!!! Just talked to --------- and she said if I'm #31 then I will be receiving my acceptance letter mid November. Which means your in too Barcode... FINALLY... I can't wait.

Jedwards -congrats! Barcode congrats! I still have a ways to go I guess, my number dropped 80 spots to 186....I guess I wont be starting till spring of 2013 at this rate..When did you both apply and how many semesters did you have to wait?

I applied in early October of 2010. I didn't expect to wait 2 years, but as you can see it really was a 2 year long wait (aka 4 semesters when you start off at Spring 2011, Fall 2011, Spring 2012, Fall 2012, and Spring 2013 is when we start actually start).

Not sure if you hear or not, but they are switching the system from lottery to the point system starting Spring 2013, but I believe they are gonna filter everyone that's left on the lottery first through the program before they start admitting people through the point system (it only makes sense because it would be completely unfair to those left on the lottery that haven't gotten in yet).

My guess is that you would start in Fall 2013 considering that they take about 60 or so students for the program based on the budget (that's what one of the nursing counselors told me). Who knows, you might get lucky and be admitted in Spring with us or at least be on the alternate list.

I meant to say Spring 2014 :) I would love to start in Fall 13, but I guess I won't know until after Spring 13 (your class) is filled.

When I enrolled in Spring 2011 (last sem. they accepted lottery apps), they said that they would clear out the lottery list before adding the point system candidates. That is why they made everyone test on the HESI last fall- it was the last time they would offer it. They are moving to TEAS test on the points system. Best of luck I hope they need alot of candidates to fill your class :)

I got the 2nd letter, the actual letter of acceptance this past Tuesday :D. I start in Spring with a 4 day mandatory orientation mid-January. After waiting 2 full years, I finally got in! So excited, but it's going to be a busy next 2 years!

I'm positive you guys that are still on the wait list through the lottery will be getting in for sure either Fall 2013 or Spring 2014 as they will filter through everyone left on the wait list before accepting people from the new system. Just an FYI for those that don't know, Mt. SAC has already switched to the "multiscreening process" aka the point system. You can view exactly what they are scoring by checking out nursing page at the mt sac website (or google mt sac nursing). In addition to switching to a new application system, they have also switched from the HESI test to the TEAS test which I've heard is far harder than the HESI.

I wish the best of luck to future applicants and acceptees. :)

Yeah, orientation is the 15th-18th. I don't know of anyone else who got in spring, but we'll see everyone in orientation  Supposedly a letter regarding orientation info and whatnot was supposed to be received by Nov 30th or Dec 5 and if you don't get one by Dec 7th, you're supposed to call the nursing department about it which I'll be doing on Monday since I never got anything yet.

Well hopefully the new syllabus is for the better :p

I actually called the Nursing department to confirm whether or not they received my reply of acceptance. They got it and yes I'll be seeing you at orientation how do I activate me private messages? wanted to message you but I am really struggling as to navigating on this site haha... anywhoo, they were going to mail another letter with more information regarding orientation. It will be from Jan 15-18 approximately 8-4:30 pm... yikes! how exciting! I can't believe the day has finally come!

BTW the text they will be using is Kozier "Fundamentals of Nursing" the newest edition. I wanted to buy the text and start reading already but I don't know where to go and if we need the access code or not. The one on Amazon had complaints because the package was missing some access code so I was hesitant to get it.... lets start studying!

I called as well this past Thursday to see if they sent orientation letter and the lady said they would be sending on Friday (this past Friday) so I'm guessing if nothing regarding orientation information comes up this coming new week in the mail, I'll probably call again.

Good to know what textbook they may be using, but I may wait a bit. I don't want to buy a book and find out later that it's not the right book and/or edition. But if you're source is an actual first semester nursing professor or counselor I may reconsider. I'll be reviewing microbio, anat, physio, and med term next week or so. I got some friends studying for pcats and the stuff they cover is microbio, physio and anat haha.
