My bestfriend is moving to Palo Alto and looking for housing. Can you guys please give me some recommendations for safe, affordable housing?

Thanks you guys a million!

Affordable housing in Palo Alto is very rare! Palo Alto is one of the most expensive areas to live in the Bay Area. What's your housing budget?

the price is not 2800 a month in san jose for a 1br. you need to look at zillow.

I dont know if you have even looked at housing.

I have been apartment searching for the past month and was able to land a sweet deal in San Mateo for 2br 1ba for 3k.

I could have got a 1br in palo alto for 2900. San jose avg is about 2.1k.

Mountain view is about 2500-2600

sunny vale is about the same or less.

Just what I heard on KCBS news talk radio a couple of weeks ago.

Yes look on zillow to find exact amounts. Bottom line pricey

Since you don't seem to balk at the prices -- may i ask if the estimators (like Indeed.com) are accurate for average RN pay in the area?

I want to move up to the Bay area after I have my BSN and a couple of years under my belt, as the hospital I'm likely to get a job through where I live is headquartered up there. However, my husband doesn't want to move up there if most of my pay would go towards rent (with the intention to eventually buy).

However, I'd want to transfer up there making around $85-90k.

You will make over $100k at acute care hospitals in the Bay area if you are working full-time, without overtime. Many threads on this very topic. Getting a job especially if you are a new grad is the hard part.

61.38 base pay. 72.42 for night shift.

friend at john muir is 65 for nights

cpmc evening 60 an hour

castro eden and alta bates is high 50's low 60s.

we all have about 1.5 years or less of EXP. the one at john muir is like 8 months -_-

I am estimated to make 135k a year if I stick to night shift.

PAY vs COL transitions well.

btw I am one of those people who pick up shifts. 1300 a shift pickup, 800 take home.

Considering taxes it's not that awesome. Esp if you have student loans or family. I make the same in sac and housing prices are much cheaper. Yeah it's hot.

taxes put on an additional 9.3%. It is still alot.

My excess cash after COL is still double from my previous job. With student loans? This is even better.

Instead of taking home 400 for my shift pickups I take home 800. If you are a workaholic it can be a blessing. But I agree with Nicki, Sac gets paid a little less hourly though, but you get your money's worth.

Lake taho 2 hours away. Napa 1-1.5 hours away. bay area 2 hours away. Take your pick.

With taxes, anything is better than my current situation, which is self-employment ;) I am really looking forward to working evenings (I typically work at night/work best at night) and I plan to pick-up shifts and work holidays.

My goal is the Bay Area, but maybe live in Morgan Hill and commute up. My best friend lives in Gilroy and commutes but deals with working a day-job. I hope it's better in the evening. I used to live in HMB as a child so I miss the area. We'll see!

evenings to me is the reject shift if you have to do 8 hours.

Cant date anyone who isnt a nurse, pay isnt as high, by the time you get out only bars are open and no food, and it can be the busiest part of the day(depending on the floor).

12 hours all the way.

HMB seemed kind of boring other than the beach, I liked gilroy/marina area for sure.
