Mount St. Mary's College ABSN SUMMER 2014

U.S.A. California

Published

This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for Summer 2014 entry.

This is my first application for admission to MSMC ABSN program; though, I was accepted for admission to their ADN program. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Summer 2014? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I haven't applied anywhere else; however, MSMC is my first and only choice.

Does anyone have any information as to when they will be sending out interviews/admission offers? I hear it's until February for May start dates!! Also, I received this email on January 10 regarding the Nursing Basic Math Test:

Dear Applicant,

We would like to thank you for your application to our Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for the Summer 2014 cohort.

In an effort to assist you in completing the application process and assist us in determining who our most qualified applicants are, we are asking that every qualified applicant take our Nursing Basic Math Exam.

Students must past the Nursing Basic Math Exam with a grade of 100% in order to begin the program, so please diligently prepare for this exam. All students, regardless of entry level or previous successful completion of a college level math course, must take this test.

The Nursing Basic Math Exam does not affect your admissibility into the program. If an applicant does not receive 100% on the Nursing Basic Math Exam and is admitted into the program, they will be offered the opportunity to remediate and retest in late April before the program begins......

Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls :o)

Good luck to all you!!

Berry

Hi Berry! I also received the same email for a math exam. I wonder if everyone who applied has to take this? I thought in the past you did not take it until you were accepted into the program, but maybe things have changed this year.

I was under the impression that invitations for the math test were only sent to students who successfully passed the interview. I am scheduling my exam for this coming Friday. Have you studied yet? It's not difficult at all...but the passing requirement of 100% does add an element of stress to it

I just saw this on the MSM website, so taking it before acceptance is very new.

"* Effective Fall 2013, qualified applicants will be invited by email to take the Department of Nursing Math Placement Exam to be considered for admission. View a sample Math Placement Exam."

I plan to take the test as well - and yes I need to study! Even thought it seems basic, I don't remember how to do everything. Maybe interviews are scheduled after the exam?

Hello everybody! I reapplied for the ABSN Summer 2014. Last year, when I was applying, I had my science class in progress. Maybe that was a reason why I was being denied. However, I stay positive and hope to be accepted this time. Last week, I also got an email about math exam and will take it next Saturday, January 18th. A new requirement about passing score 100% makes me nervous also, but I'll try to do my best, and wish you good luck!!! Let's keep in touch.

Hellooooo! Thank you for creating this board! I also applied during the last application cycle. I made it all the way through to interviews but ultimately I found out that I didn't make it in due to the pending class. This new 100% assessment requirement makes me have anxiety just thinking about it. I wish you all luck and I hope we all make it into the summer cohort :)

All—

Thank you for those who responded. Seems that many past nursing students did terrible on the math exam (after they had been accepted) and so they decided to invite potential candidates to take the exam prior to interviews. That makes sense, but I think some of us were concerned as to why they switched up the process. The test wasn’t terribly difficult; though, the requirement to pass with 100% is quite nerve wrecking. For those that took the exam this Friday, it was a pleasure meeting you (or being in the same room with you). I hope everyone did well.

Good luck and hope to meet again.

Best,

Berry

Hey Everyone!

I noticed that there was another thread going on for the MSMC ABSN Summer 2014 cohort! I also applied for the Fall 2013 cohort but wasn't accepted cause I had way too many classes in progress! I'm a little confused cause I thought that all eligible candidates took the test back in December but some of you are taking it this month. I currently have my interview with a faculty member this week and they told us that we will more than likely find out if we were accepted into the program by the first week of February.

I recognize some of you from the Fall 2013 thread... I hope we make it this time around! Good luck to everyone! :)

@twineejoy704

Hi, twineejoy704!!! I recognized you from a last year's thread. Yes, I hope we will meet each other in person very soon. I got 100% on my math test last Saturday and waiting for the invitation for an interview. I've heard that I have the possibility not to be invited for the interview, since I already had it last year. Were you interviewed last year?

Hi @twineejoy704, good luck on applying this cohort! I have a question, if you have re apply, do you have to supply 2 more letters of recommendations? or can you use the same ones as before?

Dreamer2291--

Good luck with your endeavors for the ABSN program. I am almost positive that you will not be required to resubmit additional letters as they should carry over. I had to resubmit new letters because I originally applied to the ADN program and the required letters were different (didn't need to be on professional letterhead or from an academic source). It has been a long journey getting here, and unfortunately, I missed 3 questions on the math exam. Hopefully everyone else passed with 100.

Best,

Berry

Hey @Aleks1281-

Good to see you on here again! I also got 100% on the math test when I took it this past December! I did not make it to the interview rounds for the last cohort because I had 5 classes in progress at the time of the application. I hope that we both get admitted this time around to this cohort! :)

Does anyone else have an interview this week???
