Hi all

I will likely be relocating to the SFO bay area by the end of the year. I have been in L&D for 8 years now and other extensive experience in MB and nursery including a couple of years of NICU back "in the dark ages" haha. I am interested in staying in the L&D area. Any recommendations on best place to work or not work would be appreciated. Family is in Fremont but doesnt have any information on the local hospital (Washington Hospital). Any help would be most appreciated.

You may email me privately at [email protected] if you wish.

Thanks

Cheryll

Hi Cheryll,

Will you be living in the Fremont area? DO you want to work in L&D with healthy moms or sick moms?

If healthy is what you want....there is the Kaiser hospitals throughout the surrounding area. There is O'Connor Hospital in San Jose area as well as Good Samaritan and El Camino. If you are interested in sick moms there is Valley Medical Center in San Jose, Lucille Packard in Palo ALto and CHildrens in Oakland.

Good Luck

Lisa

I agree, Orca1 made great suggestions.. I'm still in school but from clinical experience I think El Camino is great. I would like to go into either NICU or Mother Baby and am thinking about Good Samritan or Stanford. Washington Hospital is kinda small, but I know there is a Kaiser in Fremont, Hayward, and a couple in the San Jose area. Be ready for commuting.. its what we do here and you will learn the freeways very quickly!! Welcome to the bay.. theres great hospitals here!

Hi SJSU andOrcal

Freeways...arent they grand. Must say its gotten a bit busier since I was a kid in Fremont but then the "back way's" continue to expand as well - or at least that is what my Sis tells me. I was last out that way about 6 months ago.

Sick or well Moms? Hmm well I guess that depends on the definition of each. Where I currently am is a Leval II doing about 200 deliveries per month. A nice leval of business but the staff is still small enough to be a tight team esp on the night shift. We do not do invasive monitoring on the Moms at our leval but have certainly had our share of everything from pre eclamptic, eclamptics who come in blind, fatty livers, increta, accreta, and so on.

If only the endorsement procedure wasn't so involved - course it wouldn't be so bad I guess if I hadn't worked in so many places LOL.

I am looking forward to getting moved and settled. Would love to hear from any and all persons with experience out in beautiful "Bagdad by the Bay" as Herb Caen used to called it.
