Info on Maric College LVN program

U.S.A. California

Hello,

Can anyone give me an idea of what Maric College's (San Diego Campus) schedule is like for the lvn program? Like the hours and days I mean. Also, I was wondering if anyone knows what the tuition is and if it is reduced for people who did the CNA program at Maric. I know it is a lot of money, but I need to get into something right away. Also, I thought someone else might find it interesting that San Diego City College and Southwestern College accept LVN's from Maric (as long as you get your license) for the LVN-ADN program, which has quite a minimal waitlist. I thought this was great news since Maric's credits usually dont transfer for anything.

Thanks!!

heylo! i went to visit Maric college today and got some info on their LVN program. So the weekday program is 60 weeks (14 months) and is 8-3pm mon-fri and clinical is 6:45-3:30 or 1:00-9:30. The next class starts Dec 15. The evening progam is 80 weeks (18months) and is from 5:30-10:00 mon-thurs and clinical is 6:45am-3:30pm sat and sun. The total price is $28,862.00 thats w/ out transfering any gen ed classes (A&P, nutrition etc) Oh and the next time to enroll is Jan 09 or July 09. I plan on doing the LVN through Maric (or Kaplan college now) and tranferring to a CC for RN step up! There is also a SLE quick test that you must pass to be considered for the program. Its REALLY easy basic stuff. If you have any questions let me know! :nurse:

Do you know what the schedule is like if you get your RN from there?

DO NOT go to Maric!!! I repeat... do not! you will be paying WAY too much. Its 25,000 for their LVN program. The school I am at now is the Grossmont Health Occupations Center. Its in Santee. It has the same LVN program as Maric, same amount of time... your books, uniform, lab supplies... will all be covered. For a fee of $2,500. Sounds much better right!?? Plus this school is a lot more respected than Maric (now Kaplan). Feel free to ask me anything about it, I love this school and you can tell that the teachers really want you to succeed.

But how long is their waiting list?

There is no wait list. You take the TEAS test and you fill out their application and do a VERY short essay. That is it. The only downside is that they only take applications twice a year and a lot of people apply. But I got in on my first try and so did a lot of my classmates.

FutureRNangel,

Did you decide to go? If you do the day LVN your basically there 7 days a week:icon_roll? If the class time is m-f and clinicals on sat and sun...wow..I guess no free time at all? But it is only 14 months.... let us know if you decided to go or not..we are moving to SD soon and I am very interested in Kaplan College.

liberty_bell, I am still debating actually whether or not I am going to go to Kaplan. Basically in San Diego you either get your CNA license and get on the LVN waitlist or you can go to Kaplan college. So im trying to weigh out all my options. Either pay $$ or wait. Let me know what you decide to do.

I completely see where you are coming from! My husband is in the military so waiting on a list is not an option at all for me, since we will probably only be in SD for three years. I have been a CNA for over a year, so can't wait to be an RN. God bless career CNA's it is the most underpaid job ever!

Let me know what you decide as well!! :D

I think it would be best to not cut down the school that some of us may attend or be attending. We don't all have an option for a cheaper school because we do not live in an area where cheaper school are available. thanks. :)

What did you guys ended up doing? I was going to a community college and wanted to be an RN but to finish with all the classes that are required plus the waiting list just seemed too much for me since I am working.! That's why i decided to go for LVN but i'm confused if I should go to Kaplan college? I have just been reading that its a (Rip off) ? And if it is where would it be a good but not so expensive LVN program that have no waiting list?
