Has anyone read this book for job hunting?

Sad, typical story. I am a new grad and have no job, blah blah blah. ANYWAY, I was wondering if anyone has read a book called "You're Hired! A Nurse's Guide to Success in Today's Job Market" from the California Student Nurses' Association. I'm wondering if the book is any good and if it will be helpful. Thanks!

I would think that having connections and building a network might be more beneficial to finding work than any book. After all, it's not about what you know, it's about who you know.

I would try to build your network by attending job fairs, creating a LinkedIn profile, and perhaps volunteering in a healthcare facility or working as a CNA to get a foot in the door. Once the people see that you're a good worker with redeeming qualities, they'll be more likely to take a chance on hiring you.

I spent $30 on this book. It really was not helpful It didn't provide anything that I'm not already trying. The problems we are having have nothing to do with HOW we are looking for jobs. A great resume/linkedIn profile/etc is not going to help. The problem is much deeper and is a direct reflection of how bad the US economy is right now. I feel that we are going to have to just ride this one out and hope it starts improving....

Can a RN work as CNA or LPN in California? I thought I could not.

I couldn't agree with you more. I feel like I'm doing everything I can with jobhunting and utilizing resources like LinkedIn etc., but the economy is hurting and nurse recruiters have a serious phobia of new grads.
