Get in ADN program on first try?

Is that possible? Because I heard so many bad things about applying to ADN program in smaller colleges/community colleges. I had friends tell me they had to wait for years! Is it possible to get in on the first try?

It is possible! However, like most people I know (myself included) first time around wasn't possible.. My advice would be to apply to every program possible. Also if a school accepts applicants based on a points system.. Make sure you don't rely on your GPA alone.. Get all the points you can.. And try to stay positive?

It's actually possible! I just got into an ADN program on my very first try for this fall 2014! So don't lose hope and give it a shot. It's way cheaper too (;

Oh okay. Do you mind me asking what area you're from? I know here in California, almost all ADN programs are lottery and have a waitlist of over hundreds of people!

Im hoping i can get in first try. All the schools I applied go based on point system. I applied to Goldenwest, Saddleback and Riverside College for ADN. I also applied to Cal State San Marcos for BSN.

I got into CCSF ADN program in San Francisco. I believe they get about 500 applicants each cycle. Good news is that they used to only have one app cycle per year. However, they recently changed it to twice a year.

Here's where I've applied in Southern California: Cerritos, Rio Hondo, and long beach city.

Cerritos is a lottery. 100 out of 500 get In. 50 for fall 50 for the following spring. No wait list. But they do go down the list of alternates if people decline or fail the TEAS.

Rio Hondo is based on points. Overall GPA, science GPA, volunteer work, health occupation experience, veteran, financial need, need to work, family/personal difficulties, second language...

Long beach is based on GPA and lottery...from what I understand...they put GPAs together accordingly. Within each pile of GPAs they do something like a lottery.

This is my second round of applications. I have an overall GPA of 3.39, Sci GPA 3.5, all per reqs complete. I haven't taken my TEAS yet..waiting to get accepted first.

If I don't get in anywhere by May I plan to take my TEAS and apply to Los Angeles Trade Tech, CSULA, and also CSULB.. I'd rather do city college..so I can still afford to eat..lol. But whatever it takes..right?

Forgot to mention...

Rio Hondo still has 2 cycles

Long beach city and cerritos only offer 1 cycle of applications a year :/

Okay thank for your info! I was looking into Rio Hondo and Cerritos! The TEAS isnt that bad! I current attend a state school and if you get FASFA the price isnt that bad!

It's definitely possible. If you have a very good gpa and a good teas score then you will get in almost everywhere. I applied to 3 colleges for fall14 program and all the councillor told me that I will get in for sure. All the schools I applied to are all by point system though. I am also in SoCal, riverside. Good luck.
