The area is HIGHLY Asian. I lived in San Gabriel (next to Alhambra) and liked it. City traffic is really crazy at times. The BEST dim sum in L.A. area by far. Close enough to Pasadena for nightlife. The hospital itself is small. From a non-nurse perspective, the staff was really great, but the facilities were not great. Not the newest hospital.

It's a small community hospital, try to apply to a bigger one for a larger wage. Facility is small, and yes, majority asian population.

Used to deliver medical supplies there. = )

To healinghands327 and sdmommie...thanks for infos....it would be a great help, i'm sure.... I am not sure if i can tranfer to another hospital at the moment.... not until my GC arrives...

Is the wage really that bad? do you have any idea? thanks again!

Sorry, I don't know anything about the wages. I would imagine that they would be the same as other L.A. hospitals. Just a guess though.

I live near there. It is majority asian but it's nice and quiet-ish. The location is good because it is close to many shops (food, ect.) Not too far in Alhambra there's a Costco and all that good stuff. I don't know much about the pay though but I like Garfield better than Alhambra Hospital...my mom was at AH once and it was a horrible experience.

I did my clinicals at Garfield, mostly in DOU. If you are not Chinese this is a difficult place to work. The patients speak mostly Mandarin or Cantonese and are not shy about stating their preference for similar speaking staff. I did not find the staff friendly or helpful with the exception being labor and delivery where the nurses are GREAT!!!!!!!!!! Additionally there is no way to live in LA on that kind of money. Take a look at an LA County position where you will get a higher salary, the base is going up to $61,000 next month and all medical and dental for the entire family is paid. The smaller private hospitals get you on insurance for your dependents and it is not cheap. Good luck!
