Fresno State BSN entry

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi all,

I was interested in applying to the Fresno State BSN program for spring 2010 but am unsure if my GPA makes the cut. I don't want to blow the extra $50-60 on a school I wouldn't get in to anyway.

If anyone is willing to share their GPA/TEAS scores and whether they were admitted and for what term, I'd be greatly appreciative.

hey, i know EXACTLY how you feel, solidus snake. only difference is that i'm waiting to hear from Fullerton, rather than Fresno. Like, one day I will be all optimistic about getting in, but the next day i'm all like..."there's no way....".....hang in there, relax, and try to enjoy your summer! we will hear from them very soon, i'm sure! the thing is each and every school has different stats. so like when i read about a very competitive school, i get nervous, cause my stats are nowhere near theirs...haha! good luckkk! :]

HECK YEA! Why the heck do we feel like this?!? I hate feeling it! It's terrible and I dont know what to do about it!:o I'm all thinking one day that I'll get in for sure and all but then the next thing you know, I freak out because I'm thinking that I wont make it! I mean seriously, What the heck?!? If I keep feeling like this, I feel like I'm literally going to die because of mental pressure! I cant take it anymore! Lately I've been having a hard time breathing and this is worsening it. I even started crying this night in bed wondering how am I going to get through? it's about 4 in the morning now and i cant even go to sleep. I'm trying to enjoy my mini summer break but time is running out fast and summer school for me starts soon. on top of all that, I'm also waiting to get my final grades from the spring 09 semester classes knowing that I left some of my prereq classes boarder-line on the A-B scale, making the final exams the tiny force to push me up to an A or pull me down to a B.

what should i do? i need help! please.....:crying2:

awww! do you know when you will be notified? and what are you stats: gpa/teas, if you don't mind sharing. i personally don't know how the competition is at fresno state, but i'm sure you'll get in. you seem very dedicated and concerned.

i'm very anxious too, mainly because they wont tell us when we will be notified. everytime i ask them, they are like.."oh, in may....or june...july, at the latest."

i'm like WOW..thanks a lot...that really helps..haha!!

did you apply anywhere else? i only applied to one school, which makes this waiting process ever more scary and frustrating! ahhhhhhh.

good luck with your final grades. hopefully, you'll get your As!! I got lucky with my micro class because my teacher decided to be super generous with a huge curve! hahaha! :]

S. Snake: Here is what I know from a friend of mine that was going to apply to CSU Bakersfield and got tired of the constant changing so decided on CSULB. The program keeps changing. Last year at this time they had 2 separate programs, first, an entry level 3 year program for those without BA/BS. Second, they had an accelerated program - it was a 15 month program that would start in summer 09 - you had to have a bachelors in something to get into it....then last summer the accelerated went to an 18 month program and they added a pre-requisite of pathophysiology..they told you that the patho course would be offered at CSUB and to take it in Spring 09. You were to apply to the university for spring 09 admission so that you could take it and then the accelerated program would begin in Summer 09. Then in December they dropped the accelerated program and combined the regular 3 year undergraduate program WITH the accelerated one and now it is just ONE 21 month program - AND they still wanted you to take the pre-requisite of pathophysiology ( 3 semester units or 5 quarter units) ) and it has to be one that they approve of...CAN NOT be on-line must be a face to face lecture and still gave you the option of taking it in spring 09 but were also going to offer it during the summer 09 as the new revised program would not start till fall 09.

So I guess the people taking the patho now are taking it and dont even know if they are accepted into the program. So, if your GPA ( overall and math/science to separate categories) and TEAS were good enough on their criteria ( scale and they give points) those people enrolled in Spring 09 patho are hoping that they will get in by having the patho complete at CSUB.

I heard yesterday if you are one of the top 48 and dont have the patho class completed then you can take it at CSUB during their summer 5 week session - that they are going to give conditional admission to those top 48 and you will be in their program if you pass the patho with a C.

So what about those people who are just about to finish and maybe they get and A or a B in the patho course? ....I guess it doesnt matter as they are basing the conditional admission on your criteria score..and because the program is impacted they dont use all your pre-requisties grades for the criteria score, they only use a few of the required pre-requite grades to figure your score...............Who knows what they will change next.

If you apply at CSUB stay on top of things and be very flexible to changes in their program. It also helps if you live in their area as you get points for being a Bakersfield resident. My friend didnt live there and lived closer to CSULB and had applied at a lot of southern California schools. So I think she made the right choice. One wants to feel like they are going into a program that has been doing it for a while and they wont get jerked around. But from what I read on allnurses many of the programs switich things upquite a bit. I think there IS competition at CSUB as they get over 300 applications and only take 48. Well, at least that is what they are doing as of today :-)

wow 48 out of 300 at csub! any idea what the average accepted students stats are like?

yup. its on their website. the average GPA was about a 3.2.... , i think. thats not bad though, which is why i'm applying there and literally 25-30 more schools. SFSU is much more worse. 80-100 out of 1,200+ :sstrs:seriously, thats really ridiculous.

CranialNerves12: I did not apply to Fresno state yet BUT i will be applying there this coming august... which is so soon and so scary. once i apply to fresno, i go into this mode of applying to the rest of the 30+ schools. speaking of the 30+ schools, one of them i looked at was fullerton state but their BSN is only an RN-to-BSN. are you doing that one?

ummm...the program at fullerton qualifies students for their RN licensure and awards them a BSN....that's the one i'm hoping to get into.

wow, you are applying to a lot of schools!

hmmm 3.2 seems pretty low actually. Looks like it might be one of the easier CSUs to get into, cause like most of the others have an average around 3.8

3.2 was the lowest and that was probably one person who was a veteran or was classified by their point system as economically disadvantaged ( you get points on their crieteria scale for those) ..the average was 3.59 and this next fall 09 class the average person has about a 3.89

s. snake where did you take your pathophysiology course?

I was wondering what if anyone got in Fresno State or Bakersfield, i am interested in applying to both of them. I am from out of state so I need all the info. I can get. If you guys dont mind me asking, what did your profile looked like?

I plan to move out there if I get into a program prolly fall of next year ('10) ...

i havent taken a pathophysio course yet but i do hope to do their summer course on it if i get conditional acceptance once i apply.

rterra3, i dont think your chances in getting to both schools are fair because you are out of state and most of the CSU (california state univeristies) exclude interantional applicants and out of state applicants since the impaction is heavy.

my stats fight now are about a 3.75-3.9 GPA in both prereqs and overall and an 80% on TEAS 1st time taken.

Yeah i kinda figured that when i was doing some research that my chances would be low since I am out of state. Im prolly going to end up applying to almost every school in cali. lol

Ultimately, I would love to go to CSU LA... Would anyone happen to know more about that school.
