Dominican University Spring 2017 Nursing BSN

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for the Nursing program at Dominican University in San Rafael, CA since there's not a lot of newer posts about this school.

I know that it's a beautiful school but tuition is pretty steep...I mean it's a Private school after all.

Just curious to see if anyone applied and got accepted already. I was reading the acceptance rate and it seems like it's easier to get in this program rather than USF or CSUs

Hey! I didn't finish my application to go here because of the low low low NCLEX pass rates and the steep tuition! You have a great chance of being admitted because although I didn't finish my application they have sent me multiple emails and letters stating that there are many spots still open for BSN spring 2017. It's a pretty well avoided program.

I called to the school on Friday and asked them about the dadeline for spring 2017. I was told they still have 20 available spot for BSN spring 2017 and that I still could apply even though the dadeline is due. I then started my application. However, I did some research about their NECLEX passing rate and its way too low. I just felt like it's not worth to pay close to $50,000 for 60% passing rate

I graduated from Dominican University recently. They have worked very hard to change their pass rate and help students study and pass the NCLEX. Their passing rate is near 90%. It has increased significantly so do not let this be a determining factor to attend this school. I passed NCLEX at 75 questions and have had multiple new grad nurse interviews. In my cohort everyone passed NCLEX. Yes, the price is steep and comparable to all private schools.

Hi there, how was your experience at Dominica university? Is that true that you have to wait almost 3 semesters to start clinicals? I heard they have long waitlist even if you get accepted to the nursing as a transfer.

Hello, i applied to Dominican this coming spring too - however it was last minute as i was originally applying for the Fall semester. Does anyone know if they focus more on your cumulative GPA or do they take the Pre-requisites in account more?

And yes, the price is pretty steep, couldn't agree more.

Specializes in Cardiac Cath Lab.

Hey fr0092,

This is one of the paperwork I got from them:

Students must pass (or have in progress) all eight prerequisite courses (see below)with a minimum 3.25 GPA.

ï‚· Students must have a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA.

 The minimum passing grade in Human Anatomy and Physiology is a ‘B'.

ï‚· Students cannot repeat previously passed prerequisite courses in order to raise theirGPA (this parallels University policy). Exception: repeated courses that were initiallytaken more than five years ago.

ï‚· Students who do not pass more than one class required for the nursing major (i.e.,prerequisite, co-requisite, or Nursing) are disqualified from being in the nursingprogram.

ï‚· Freshmen who complete all prerequisite courses by the end of the spring semester oftheir freshmen year will receive priority placement into a fall nursing program enteringcohort.

ï‚· Before entering the Nursing program, all students must be medically cleared in order toensure the safety and well-being of patients encountered in the clinical setting.

I got in with:

Overall GPA: 3.65

Core Science: 4.0

virtually 0 Volunteer hrs

activities: full time registered veterinary technician for emergency and critical care.

I also applied at USFCA and haven't heard from them when others already got accepted or rejected. I heard through the grapevine that I might be on some sort of waiting list but this is not confirmed. A lot of people who applied at USFCA already heard back last week and I turned in my app back in Aug.

Regardless, I will proceed with Dominican since this is already locked in. They also give you merit scholarship so I was able to deduct some from the tuition. I applied into these private schools understanding that I will have some (a lot! lol) student loan debt...lol

Good luck to you!

Ahh still getting used to this forum and i meant to quote you with my previous response. But yeah, i submitted my USF application a tad late and i've already locked my deposit with DUC. So from here on i'm pretty much set - plus i wish i just knew right away if i got in USF!! Although yeah, i'm pretty much stuck on student loans if i'm applying between Samuel Merritt, USF, and DUC.

I also rechecked the pass rates online and DUC actually improved theirs recently, i was also surprised with their previous stats beforehand so i was a bit skeptical.

I wish I can apply to Dominican! I've wanted to go to this school but due to low overall GPA and only 3.0 for core science, I don't have a chance. So lucky are those who get accepted from this school. It's a beautiful campus!
