Does Cal BRN accept electronic transcripts?

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello all! I am applying for licensure by endorsement from TX to California. I've attended several different schools (mainly in Calif) but I received my ADN nursing degree in Texas. Now, I know I have to have that form filled out by the school that I got my nursing degree at, but will the board accept electronic transcripts from my other schools?

Thanks to anyone who can provide information.

Send the California BRN an email and ask them. That would be the best way to find out exactly the info you seek. Worst case scenario is that you have your institution send them "official" paper copies. If there's a way for electronic transcripts to be deemed "official" then that may be something the California BRN can deal with. Not sure...

Best to just simply ask.

Thanks for the advice. I just sent them am an email. Hope I don't have to wait two weeks for a reply. Lord, I hope this process doesn't take too long. The fellow I spoke with at the BRN told me 6 to 8 weeks once the file is complete. Hope he's right. I've GOT to get back to California!

AFAIK, I don't think they do. That being said, ask because you never know.

I do know that they won't accept ANY transcript that comes from you--it has to be sent directly to them by your school(s).

The fact that you went to several different schools shouldn't matter. I submitted five transcripts (I always thought it was four, but your post made me re-count them) from schools in three different states. The one that annoys me the most was having to get a transcript from a school in Texas that I took one (1!) class at. It was Microbiology so there was no way I could omit it.

Thanks for your reply. You want to hear something funny? I was on the phone with the BRN on Monday and the guy I was talking to told me the Board WOULD accept my transcripts from nursing school fom me if they were in an official seal envelope! I'm not going to take any chances so I will just have them sent by the school. As for the electronic transcripts, you're probably right. After all, that would just be way too easy and convenient.

Whoever heard of a BON doing anything easily or conveniently? ;)

I would be wary about what you were told as well. Just because the guy on the phone told you they'll accept them doesn't mean that whoever is processing your application actually will...especially when the BRN website itself states about that requirement: "Request for Transcript form(s) completed and forwarded directly from the nursing school(s) with certified transcripts." (http://www.rn.ca.gov/applicants/lic-end.shtml). Better to play it safe, IMO.
