Does anyone have any information about nursing at Mercy Medical Center in Merced Ca?

U.S.A. California

Hi,

I am a new graduate RN and like all others I am searching for a New grad RN position. I came across Mercy Medical Center in Merced Ca which has a few positions open and available to new grads. I was wondering if anyone has information on the hospital in general and if it is a good place for nurses...if you have any other info regarding salary or relocation reimbursement that info would be great too. Any information at all would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your help!

I've interviewed there, but it's a little too far away for me to seriously consider. It is a decent hospital, lower income area though.

I don't know about the salary/relocation assistance for a new grad. You should apply and find out those things for yourself. If they call then you can make up your mind based on the information you receive.

Good luck!

It's in the Catholic Healthcare West system, which as large systems go is pretty decent to work for - not the best maybe, but far from the worst. I believe it's one of the few CHW hospitals that is not organized with the California Nurses Assn. I prefer a union hospital myself, but CHW has been smart enough that when the nurses at their union hospitals win something in bargaining they generally give the same thing to the nurses at their non-union hospitals. Merced used to be a real cultural desert, but now I think there's a new UC campus there, so that probably means more in the way of cultural offerings and such. And Yosemite and the whole southern Sierra are close, which is pretty nice if you like outdoor stuff.

Thanks for the responses I guess what was worrying me was that there are a lot of positions open a lot of which are open to new graduates. With the hiring of new grads being so scarce I guess I am just a little weary when I come across a hospital with an abundance of openings willing to hire new grads.

Unfortunately,it's still pretty much a cultural desert.

They may be having a hard time finding experienced nurses. It's a rural area, lower income. If you go for an interview you will see what I mean.

I'm sure that their rural location has a lot to do with the jobs being available. But, given the difficult job market for new grads, a job there may be better than no job.

I agree, it would be worth pursuing. I would consider it , but like I said it's too far for me.

I was just looking at their website. They have a good new grad orientation program and the benefits are good too.

Thanks everyone for the awesome responses! I just applied to a bunch of their positions and am crossing my fingers that I hear back soon. Thanks for your time everyone!

I know this thread is old. I work for CHW, we ARE organized with CNA (california nurses association-Union). I am at a different hospital, benefits are ok. You work hard, but you tend to be paid more than other hospitals. Usually our hospitals are pretty good to get experience at, and then most people leave after they get that experience. They all seem to have a revolving door, but it does make it one of the few places that will typically hire new grads. Add in the fact that Merced is in the desert...in not an ideal location, that's why they hire so many nurses, including new ones.

I was a bit wary of the place I applied because there was so many openings, but it didnt' end up being a bad place to work.

Yes, currently they have a lot of open positions. I applied too! But I am no longer a new grad like you though.

Have you heard anything from them?
