Dec 2013 BSN-RN graduate waiting for ATT from CA-BRN

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey everyone!

I recently graduated December 2013 and submitted my application to the CA-BRN >3 weeks ago. I am just curious how long it will take to get my ATT #.

Today (12/17/13), I visited the BRN and they said they have not even gotten to my application (sent 3 weeks ago) and that they are a month behind because they are having trouble with the new breeze system.

Just wondering when others sent in their applications? have you received any word regarding ATT? And any other updates from the BRN would be great.

Any comments/help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Just go to NCLEX Testing with Pearson VUE to register for an ATT code. You pay for a test fee. They send you the code within minutes an then you can register to take the NCLEX with the code.

I graduated in June and I submitted my application paperwork in mid-May. My check to the BRN was cashed in late June. I received my ATT number in mid-July, about 8 weeks after I sent in my application. I called the BRN several times throughout this process. They told me from the date the BRN cashes in your check that it can take 4-6 weeks for you to get your ATT number.

Also I have a last name in the second half of the alphabet. All of my classmates who had last names in the first half of the alphabet received their ATT numbers about 4 weeks before I did and all of my classmates with last names in the second half of the alphabet received ATT numbers around the time I got mine. This is because the BRN assigns the same number of reviewers to each letter of the alphabet. This means that if more people applied for an ATT number and there were more people with last names that started with "R," it will take the reviewer longer to go through these applications as opposed to the last name "B" that had less people apply during this time. I'm guessing around the time I applied for an ATT number there were more people with last names in the second half of the alphabet.

If you have a job offer lined up, consider asking your nursing school if they can help speed up the process for you to get the ATT number especially since you have to have RN license by a certain date for the job. I know some administrators at nursing schools have some pull with the BRN in these certain situations and may be able to help you.

Right now, I would recommend you study for the NCLEX like you have an exam date because depending on circumstances you may need to take the NCLEX soon after you get the ATT number. I recommend checking to see when your check is cashed by the BRN with your bank account. I also recommend that you make sure the BRN has all the paperwork they need like your transcripts and stuff. I have heard of some people getting their ATT number delayed because of this. Ask to make sure that your file is complete.

Good luck with everything! I know waiting can be frustrating, but I would recommend that you begin seriously studying for the NCLEX. Good luck!

This actually worked for my classmates who had last names in the first half of the alphabet. I am guessing because many of their applications had been processed. However for me and many of my classmates with last names in the second half of the alphabet, we had to wait 4 weeks longer than my classmates who had last names in the first half of the alphabet to get our ATT numbers.

I would recommend that you pay for a test fee with Pearson VUE since you are going to have to do it any way. It may expedite you getting the ATT code but it also may not. I would still recommend you sign up though!

My entire cohort signed up using pearsonvue...about 44 students and we all received our numbers right away. I think it depends on when the school sends the paperwork. I think all schools will expedite files and the state is used to getting loads each semester. My school sent our files without official transcripts. Transcripts were sent much much later when the school finished processing them. I think that helped us get our codes much more quickly.

Hi ksander1086,

Thanks for your reply! I registered with Pearson VUE but have not received my ATT code yet. Im assuming this is because the BRN has not reviewed my application yet.

Hi TooProudToMention,

Thank you for your detailed response! Wow 8 weeks? If you don't mind me asking, did you have any anything on your record that slowed down the process? And do you think they have more applicants during the Spring or Fall semester?

Thank you!

Hi @RNnewgrad00! No I didn't have anything in my record that slowed the process. Like I said almost all of my classmates who had last names that started in the second half of alphabet had to wait about 8 weeks before we all got our ATT numbers. Most of my classmates who had last names in the first half of the alphabet got their ATT numbers soon after they registered on Pearson Vue. I am guessing their applications had been processed already or something. And like I said in my earlier post, the last name does sometimes factor into wait time.

Similiar to ksander1086, I believe my nursing school sent our files without official transcripts. Transcripts were sent later after my school processed them. Ksander1086 said he/she thought this helped them get their ATT numbers quickly. My classmates in the first half of the alphabet got their ATT within 4 weeks, but everyone else got theirs within 8 weeks.

I really think there are more applicants who graduate in May/June so the wait time took longer. I have a friend who went to another school who had a name in the second half of the alphabet, and he received his ATT number in about 8-10 weeks as well. The BRN told me that from the date when they cash in your check that it will take 4-6 weeks for you to get your ATT number. For me, it took about 2-3 weeks for me to get my ATT number after my check was cashed.

Good luck with everything! And again I really recommend you begin your study regimen for taking the NCLEX!

Hi there, just wanted to see if there was any update on this post? I also graduated in December. Sent in my application the first or second week of December, the BRN cashed my check on the 26th (showing they received it). Only 4 out of 42 of my graduating class have received their ATT. The whole "register on Pearson Vue and they will send you your ATT right away" is definitely not true. PearsonVue can't send the ATT until the BRN tells them we are clear to test. We were told to register on PearsonVue.com and pay the $200 testing fee (which I did in November before I even sent my application) and I have not received my ATT. I know the BRN is behind due to issue with Breeze (although I'm not really sure why it takes them longer to process applications since Breeze has nothing to do with processing). Also the 4 that received theirs didn't have any tickets/enforcement issues, and I have one. Just wondering if the original poster has received theirs yet.
