CSUSB Fall 2012 Hopefuls

U.S.A. California

Hey everyone!

Well we made it mighty far and now we are done with pre reqs and on to applying!

I am applying to the 2012 cohort and would like to invite everyone else that is applying to post here for any questions, concerns or comments!

Well I am about to put in my application. So far I have all pre reqs done, pending algebra this winter intersession. My Teas test is done, my letters of rec are on their way and basically all I am waiting for is final transcripts!

Good luck to everyone who applied

Let the wait begin!

For all the colleges I applied to, transcripts are due in June/July. But I don't get why they request them so late, after they had already made an admissions decision. I guess it's to double check what you entered on CSU Mentor is accurate. When I log into the mycoyote CSUSB student log in, under "Application status" it says that my application is imcomplete because I need to submit official transcripts by July 15th. Don't they make the decisions before that though?

yes i actually got an "incomplete application" email from CSUSB. dont worry. i emailed the admissions and they said that final transcripts are due in July so we are ok. IDK how CSUSB is able to get away with not sending acceptances/denials so late. i mean luckily they are on quarter system so fall starts late sept but still! i know the deposite is due in like early May for the CSU's. Why would I put in a deposit if I dont know if I am in the program yet? ya Know? And where are all the CSUSB applicants? I swear this school is the one CSU that doesn't show up very often. I cant even find good enough statistics to see how competitive i am.

Guess what? I just realized that i sent everything to CSUSB SoN BUTTTTT i forgot to print out my TEAS score transcript! UGH how could I forget that? I put in transcripts, 2 letters of rec, copy of my current job with CNA cert and forgot TEAS SCORE! so after winter is over I will just send it with those transcripts because the class that I am in is one of my "in progress" course (college algebra bleeech) so I know they will need it ASAP so no big hurry!

ahh we have a loooong wait for CSUSB. Hopefully we (mostly likely you and not me) get accepted somewhere else and CSUSB is a back up. I know we find out for CSULA around mid April (ugh) and interviews for CSULB is mid march (eh oh well) so I mean, for all the CSU's I am applying to, this is the last one to let everyone know if they are in or not. I wish they wouldn't let it go on so long!

I also applied to RCC as a back up (very respected ADN program, a lot of grads get choosen over LLU grads!) and they wont file decisions until late July TOO! ***** Because they are semester and fall starts late August so talk about a small window of time to get all the info in! Hopefully with the lack of responses, there arent a lot of people applying? that is hopefuly thinking, as hopeful i can get at this point

If you guys don't mind me asking, what are your stats?

@DarkBluePhoenix I see what you mean. They are trying to cheat us our money by making us put in a deposit then later on see that there was some discrepancy with our transcripts and our online application! Then they get to keep our money! Haha. And have you called them to let them know you forgot your TEAS scores? You might want to do that just in case they realize you forgot it and void your application or something. When does CSUSB let us know whether we are accepted or not? And I think that applying to RCC for their ADN program is a good back up, but I would rather go straight to BSN. The hospital that I volunteer at and where my mom works and where I will hopefully do my clinicals at (CSULB does clinicals there) only accepts BSN degrees and up now. In a few years it will just get tougher and tougher to find a job with an ADN. You can always do the ADN->BSN route but won't it take longer than just doing the BSN program? To be honest, I did not even know that CSUSB had a nursing program until I did my research last summer. ;)

ST:

Yes I prefer straight BSN but at the rate of competitiveness and my lack thereof makes me thinks that I wont be able to get into a BSN program :(

Hello: How ya doin? Stats well lets see I still have college algebra in progress but........

Pre-req: 3.8+

Overall GPA: 3.26

Teas: 84%

Letter of Rec x 2

CNA in hospital ( counts? )

Bilingual: May or may not count because I only did 2 years of ASL because that is all my high school offered. When I sent in my app today, I typed a letter explaining that 2 years of ASL in high school (they didnt offer a 3rd year until a few years after I graduated) made you proficient in the language. I basically asked them to at least make a consideration...knowing my luck, doubt it would work.

Attended info session in fall 2011 which counted for winter 2012/2013 and fall 2012 application dates.

I do not look competitive at all! but if I do not make it in, i will try one more time in winter and that is it for me!

No one really knows how they calculate who gets in or not but it is competitive and they are big on pre req GPA, overall and TEAS. I think everything else is for those students making up for a bad TEAS or bad overall GPA.

What are your stats if I may ask

@DarkBluePhoenix Wow you have taken trig, stats, and now college algebra? I hate that I have to take Stats because some nursing schools require it, but I guess I shouldn't be complaining! Why can't all nursing schools require the same math course!? I'm actually receiving a waiver for my math courses because it isn't equivalent to CSUSB. Crazy right? I took both College Algebra and currently taking Stats and neither of them are equivalent to the math courses CSUSB wants you to take. So I had to go through this process of contacting the Dept. of Chair in Mathematics and have him recommend to waiver my math course as part of my application and to take the class I did at CSULB. He said that the Nursing Dept. accepted it since it is the required math course for the nursing program at CSULB, but I am sure if I did that for the 4 other schools I applied to they would not accept it.

Depending on how they calculate the GPA my prereq is between a 3.7-3.8

Teas: 87.3

Overall gpa: not competitive. haha

(+letter or recs, bilingual, and info meeting)

As far as residency, I am from Northern California.

@ST1004 @DarkBluePhoenix: You guys have some good stats! I'm sure you guys will have no problem getting in! Is CSUSB your first choice? The 6 month long wait is going to be dreadful.......:uhoh3:

Yours stats are good! None of us have residency in San Bernardino County eh? I realized that I meant to use my aunts address on the application to get more points but totally forgot...oh well :)

What you mean your overall GPA not competitive!?!? It cant be as bad as my barely 3.26 LOL

CSUSB is my top choice because it is the only one that hasn't

a) disqualifed me (read CSULB fall 2012 thread)

b) too competitive for me (read CSULA fall 2012 thread)

I wish they released how we are choosen! and yes this is going to be a long haul!

where else did you apply?

HAHAHAH I have also taken pre-cal and Calculus 1 &2 (remember previous engineering major!)

I hate stats too! total BS. like I did anthropology and most schools want sociology! WTH?

Wait so you took math courses and CSUSB isn't like'n them? What is going on!?!? Man you are having a tough time transferring the simplest units! i thought my situation sucked but you have had to go above and beyond just to freaking apply to program

Why cant all nursing schools just require the same crap! Geez then maybe it wouldn't take a pre nursing major like 3+ years to satisfy them all!

I took College Algebra and now am taking Stats and CSUSB's required math courses aren't equivalent to either of them. So I had to get it waived. At least CSU colleges aren't like UCLA and UCI where out of high school you already have to be as competitive as you can in order to get into the program. One thing I like about the CSU nursing program system is you get a fresh start of high school. I was thinking, "why don't colleges just accept as many pre nursing students as they can admit to the program?" but then that would be based purely on high school stats and a lot of people change when they go to college. To me the TEAS was waaaay easier than SATS (which I did not do well on!) Well in terms of information it was easier.
