CSUN ABSN

Anyone applying for summer/fall 2012? Anyone can comment about the program (graduates, current students)?

Thanks!

Hi, Happyperon2, thank you for sharing your opinion on my problem! :) True, networking is the king. Sigh. I suck at it, but I guess I will need to work on that skill. Do you think volunteering in a certain hospital helps? I have been volunteering at Cedars, and intend to keep on doing that even after my one year commitment expires.

Happyperson2, I really-really hope that you will get in. This year not too many people are discussing CSUN ABSN program, so it is not clear how other applicants are doing - maybe more letters are being sent, interviews are being set up, and we just don't know because nobody is discussing it. Can I ask you, what other schools have you applied to?

Lilpeapods,

I think it will be quite understandable if you contact the program coordinator at CSULA. But again, correct me if I am wrong, you can always accept CSUN, and if you hear the good news from CSULA, you can notify CSUN immediately, and they will contact a person on the alternate list. Life happens, and sometimes people have to put off school for a year, or family emergencies happen, so I would think sometimes prospective students change their decision after they sign this letter.

Hi! I'm in too! Still weighing other options as well. I'm suprised more people haven't posted....strange

wish current or former students would post so we could get an idea of what the program is like

@danceluver - a few pages back, a current student by the handle mrmandap

talks about his/her experiences thus far in the program.

@happyperson2 and willowla - thanks for your advice. i think i will go ahead and accept, then apologetically withdraw if i get into csula. i received my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday. march 14th is the deadline to submit your intent, however, if you don't do your online background check (it costs $39.99) by march 31st, you forfeit your spot. so, in effect, march 31st is the real cut-off date.

yes, it's strange that not many people are on this thread... it's a ghost town here!

I applied and still haven't heard anything. =/ I'm guessing that's not a good sign either.

Hi willowLA!

Thanks for your encouragement =) I was talking to a former professor and she said... "no news is good news"... at least for now... so I will keep holding onto that little piece of hope.

I don't think volunteering at a certain hospital makes too much of a difference. Just the fact that you are volunteering gives you experience, which is a definite plus for your application. I only applied to 2 schools (CSUN and Concordia). So I'm just going to wait it out and try not to stress =)

Shygstgurl and happyperson2 - I am a CSUN ABSN applicant and i haven't heard back either. I have been super anxious since I first found out ppl were getting acceptance letters 4-5 days ago and i haven't heard anything. Been very paranoid about checking my mail and email all the time.

One thing I wanted to ask - on my application, they asked you to check which term you're applying for, and I checked the box that said "2012 Both Summer and Fall (Deadline 12/01/2011)" and then they asked for your "Preference" on which one. I put Summer since that was the earliest one. Did any of you guys check the option that had both? I'm hoping if Summer is full then that means they'll consider me for Fall, but I'm not sure what it means. I kinda just checked it to be safe.

I will post back if I hear anything. Stay positive!

Hi Ilean811 :)

I checked that box as well and for preference I think I might written "either" (I might have put fall, but I can't remember honestly). =)

Any applicants CSUN alum? If so, do you know whether that helps with getting into the program? I hear CSUN is probably the most difficult program to get into. I have met with a past grad and she said she really enjoyed the program and still keeps in contact with a number of the professors but she did mention that they have changed quite a bit since she graduated 2 years ago.

I'm not a CSUN alumni, so I'm not sure if that will help or hurt getting in. Sometimes schools don't want to admit alumni because that means that they don't open up their network to newer students (and possible money or networking when they become alumni). But I'm not so sure that's the case with CSUN. I have heard that the program is really hard to get into and that it has changed over the past few years as well...

I am not a CSUN alumni, not sure it helps or hurts on'e chances to get in. I wonder how much the program has changed...
