CSULB Fall 2013 BSN

U.S.A. California

Published

I just submitted my application yesterday and thought I'd start a thread for this process! I was involved in one last year when I applied, and it was really helpful to know what was going on, and where my stats where with others! I was told that they are expecting over 500 applicants, and we would hear back by the end of February! Good luck everyone!

The candidates invited to the interview are usually top 120 (90 admitted plus the 30 alternates--number will fluctuate per pool depending on the budget). The purpose of the interview is to determine if you can communicate in English as opposed to just pass the requirements used to rank candidates. My understanding is that failure to "pass" the communication tests does not mean you're denied to the program-it means you will be assigned to additional English supplements.

Once all the interviews are completed the nursing committee will again review the list and weed out those that did not participate, declined, etc...they will post a list about 3-4 weeks after interviews are conducted of those officially accepted and designate alternates and their ranking. The university will follow with their admission decision (both decisions are contingent on acceptance of each other).

The alternates will continue the waiting up until the week before the start of fall semester. Admission of alternates depends on accepted students' declination or if the University denies admission. Offers to alternates will go in order of their ranking.

Hope my two cents makes sense ; )

I'm reposting my previous post about my experience in the interview a few pools back:

Yes, I have participated in the interview. The first time I applied I was an alternate. The interview is not like a job interview, it's set up to determine your communication skills, in English. They set you up in groups, you listen to videos and interpret to the best of your recollection--you answer questions verbally in a group setting and in writing. They also had an activity in which you partner up and provide instructions to your partner using a bunch of different medical items (e.g., tweezers, gloves). I also remember a Prof./Administrator asks questions in a group setting. I remember thinking "that wasn't that bad" once it's over...don't let your nerves get the best of you. The hardest part of the application process is already done (GPA/TEAS). The interview may have changed, I did it on 2009.

I'm at a 9.24, with an interview invite. I think I'm one of the lowest scores getting the invite on this thread at least. I really hope I'm not an alternate!

I fell ya. Mine was a 9.23 (low because of my one course in progress) but I havn't received an email yet! Our scores are so similar. Its weird though that me and some others gmo77677 (9.7) and gobeach2013 (9.44) havnt gotten emails yet.

Can those who received the invite post your score out of 10 again? Im curious about the stats and the cut off score

My score is 9.44

I have a 9.4

I just checked this morning in my SPAM FOLDER and found the interview invite! Make sure to check every folder in your email! I found it this morning when I really got it yesterday at 3:50pm. I'm so relieved. I have a score of 9.58. Good luck to everyone :)

Gobeach does get the email.

Oh this explains, gmo. Did they tell you you were on the alternate list on the interview day? And how many alternates were in the interview?

Gobeach does get the email...

oh ok i missread. well maybe a 9.23 just wasn't high enough to get an invite. Crazy that a one hundreth of a point can seperate getting an invite and not getting one (Rgo8316 had a 9.24). Ill call monday and ask but ill assume the worst. Good thing I applied to 5 others schools lol. CSULB was my number 1 but well see...

Gmo, I have a similar question to optimind. When do you find out where you stand, either as admitted or an alternate?

I'm applying to 3 schools. So far 2 schools have sent me the congratulations letters (csulb and gwc) . The other 2 schools are ADN tho. So I really hope I'll get in csulb nursing this fall lol.

I'm taking pharm and Patho at gwc. Bad is on the interview date, I have 2 midterms :/

Oh I just remember this. One of my friends who also applying to csulb talked to you - know - who. And she told my friend that this year the cut off is 9.1. I'm not sure of its accuracy tho.

yea having the interview on a wednesday seems like a bad time, but whatever its totally worth it for you! good luck on the interview

The "list" is put up after the interviews (3-4 weeks after). The list will indicate the ranking and your alternate number. The official acceptance letter will also indicate your alternate number.
