CSULB Fall 2013 BSN

U.S.A. California

Published

I just submitted my application yesterday and thought I'd start a thread for this process! I was involved in one last year when I applied, and it was really helpful to know what was going on, and where my stats where with others! I was told that they are expecting over 500 applicants, and we would hear back by the end of February! Good luck everyone!

@gmo77677 are you a transfer applicant as well? if so and if you don't mind me asking, what's your cumulative GPA? and your score of 9.7 is a great score!! how were you an alternate in '09? it's way more competitive now than before. you seem to have pretty high scores and grades from what i'm picking up.[/quote']

Perseverance! When I initially applied my score was 8 something, I can't remember. I had Science GPA 4 B's 1 A, Gen GPA 3.74, Teas Gen 89.7, Teas Math 88ish. Oh wait, I was Alt# 17, not 21....anywho during the orientation I sat next to alt #10...between myself and her (span of 7 people) there was a difference of .10!!! I went thru the process, interview, orientation...even trying on the uniform. Then the "Sorry, you were not selected at this time..." Devastated! So, after a few ugly cries and sleepless nights, I decided that I would get right back up and try again. This time I would evaluate what can I do to improve my score? And what would I do differently? Given that it took me forever to finish my pre-req, the Fall '09 was the last term before my sciences started to expire, one by one. So I decided that I would repeat until my score was competitive. Well, I, like many other hopefuls, didn't anticipate the budget cuts-closing the admissions to transfers, blah blah and blah. So what I planned on repeating 2-3 classes turned into all 5! But we'll worth it! I also took a grammar and reading class to help me improve my TEAS, I studied TEAS like a maniac! My score went up to 94.7 general and 96 math. And now my sciences were 4.0

I told myself that the next time I applied it would be under a different frame of mind and knowing that I did absolutely everything I could.

When I needed that push to get me in study mode, I would read the rejection letter to myself and remember what it felt like. So now, I just sit and wait and see if it paid off. And of course, I am applying to all programs that are feasible for me.

"Persevere - to persist in anything undertaken; maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement; continue steadfastly."

This quote definitely kept me focused.

trust me, i know how you feel. this is my second nursing application (first time applying to csulb) because i was also rejected, but from uci's nursing program -- this was my first nursing application. that rejection e-mail i received last year really pushed me to do my best in the prerequisite courses for csulb nursing. i wish i was able to repeat the prerequisite classes like you, but with all the policy changes, obviously, that's not even an option.

i just hope that 9.45 points will get me in and make this my first and only application into csulb nursing. i have a 1.5 year old daughter as well and i hope i don't have to push my graduation date any further. by the way, i really like the quote you posted. it's very motivating.

whatever our stories are, i sure do hope that all of us on this thread make it in. just a few more weeks and we'll know if we overcame the first obstacle -- getting an interview invite.

what other schools are you guys/ girls applying to? i'm applying to LBCC, Glendale Community College, Cerritos College, possibly Santa Monica College, and CSULB. CSULB is the only nearest school with the BSN program that I was able to apply to -- CSULA's deadline was before my grades were in and UCLA seems way too competitive to even try. i'm also trying to stay in the LA area because moving is too hard to do with a family of my own.

I only applied to CSULB, and Saddleback CC. Obviously, CSULB is my first choice, but this is also my second time applying to this school. I applied to CSULB last year at this time with a 9.00, but the cutoff was 9.11. I have now finished all of my prereq's and raised my score to a 9.4, and have gotten all of the coreq's out of the way.

I have a four and a five year old, and going back to school has definitely been quite the experience. At this point, I am not taking any classes and just waiting for the interview email to show up in my inbox and keep me motivated! Maybe next week???? I was told end of February by the admissions counselor...

Yeah, I was worried about the change in repeating policies they have in effect now...I verified w nursing dept that the science expiration of 5 years is still applied. As of this applicant pool, the science pre-req. has to be w/in 5 years (or close to)...if not, you can retake and they count the most recent and the expired is not counted/avg'd. I know there were changes to the repeating of the gen gpa courses.

I am also applying to CSUSB, PCC, Golden West, ELAC, Rio Hondo, LA County, Azusa Pacific, Cerritos, LBCC...it's only taking a million transcripts : )

Given the past threads, I decided to take Pathophysiology and Pharm at Golden West this Spring...I figured since they are pretty much standard semester 1 classes of every nursing program it wouldn't hurt. I also noticed that everyone was scrambling last min to do the registration and adding so I would do it this semester to avoid the rush.

I got very good advice...change all ur passwords to what u want to accomplish.

My passwords now include "iamanurse"

@gmo77677, I love your positivity, and I cannot wait to get this email! I have already begun checking my email and spam multiple times per day. Just out of curiosity, what are you all hoping for-trimester or semester?

And the waiting continues....

@gmo77677 you have so much optimism (: you actually make me feel a lot better whenever i read your posts about being positive lol. and @redwards6, same here. i'm constantly checking my email on my phone :/ it's either this week or next week that we'll receive it.

i'm also hoping for the trimester program. i'm already delaying graduation by 2 years and i want to finish asap.

so much anxiety over all this waiting ...

I wish there are more people in this forum to chat with :dead: . That way we'd know where we stand with stats and have more inside info about the application process.

I feel like it has just been us three @gmo77677 and @redwards6 . Other than that, thumbs up to us

Hahahaha! That's hilarious...crickets! Maybe we're the only applicants???

Well, by nature I am a pessimist and a worrier. I've had to train myself and surround myself w a lot of positive people. Just keep trying and keep getting up.

I can't tell u how much I refresh the website for new info,

My first choice is the 3 yr., I have 2 kids and I will need to come up for air. I started when my first was 1 yr...she's 11 now!!! Another year won't kill me...well maybe ; )

Hey everyone I have also been checking my emails to see if they sent out the interview invites and it is very nerve racking! I believe that all of you guys have a great chance of getting in this coming fall (myself as well hopefully)!! For the program I wouldn't mind the 3 year program, because I can't imagine how intense it would be having to do the trimester and I'm in no rush to finish, just a rush to get in a program and get started! Lol.
