Confused UCLA student

U.S.A. California

Hi everybody, I'm currently a student at ucla and I have finished my first year. I did horribly, because I was very lazy and just has absolutely no motivation. I didn't know what I wanted to do. So now I've decided to go the nursing route. I've always liked science and had put serious though into becoming a nurse (the major I applied with at ucla was biology) , but then changed my mind. I've decided to go back to nursing again. But I've wasted an entire year taking classes I don't really need for nursing and my GPA is at a 2.0. I really want to do an accelerated nursing program (ABSN) but I don't know if i should just finish school at ucla with a degree in a science (right now i'm thinking psychobiology) and then apply to CSUN's ABSN program ( they only accept 36 students a year, cost is roughly $15000 for 15-month program) and apply to Samuel Merritt's program (the problem with this is that, although not as competitive, costs $60000 for 12 month program). I'm just very stressed out right now because I'm wondering if it's better for me to complete prerequisites at ucla, and then transfer as a junior to a school with a normal pace BSN program. OR, transfer from ucla now completely to another school. Can anyone help me with this? Any suggestions? Thank you so much.

Moved to California State Nursing Programs Forum, as more appropriate for this inquiry :)

Specializes in NICU.

Unless you can seriously improve your GPA, your question is pointless. Most ABSN programs are competitive and almost all require a minimum 3.0 GPA in your first degree. The actual people that they choose will have a GPA well over a 3.0. California is saturated will nursing students and new grads. looking for jobs.
