Hi Nurses :)

Wanted to start a new forum for those of you applying for the RN New Grad Program for the Spetemper 2013 cohort.

Heres the Link: http://www.chla.org/site/c.ipINKTOAJsG/b.3929777/k.E91E/Nursing_Career_Opportunities.htm#.UT6aKo7fRdQ

Applications opened today so best of luck to all who apply!

She didn't know exact numbers yet, only that they'd be taking 40-50 people. I tried to get specifics about the floors, and she said thats up to the unit managers, but it is usually 2-5. Word around my school is about 1100 people applied.

How is BMT? I just got my immersion for 6E and BMT and I don't know what to expect for either one. Did you do much in BMT?

I got to do a lot of things that nobody in my program got to do. I learned a ton about BMT which we didn't learn about. I think it gave me an advantage over the rest of my classmates. With BMT it's a lot of neutropic patients and you always have to wear a mask. People are at different stages of treatment so some are doing really well and others are okay. About six patients died while I was on the unit :( But I was so glad I did it, like I said I feel it gave me an edge over others

I turned in my packet yesterday, actually hand delivered it. I also went to the Nurse.com fair in LA this week and got to speak to the recruiter. She said that on April 15, all the Unit Managers will START to go through the packets. Then a week later and if your chosen, they will start to call you in for the panel interview. The call/panel interview will go into early May. 2nd interview will be the rest of May, and by June 1st they hope to have their cohort hired.

I just wanted to post this so people dont freak out if they dont get an interview scheduled by the first week of April.

Just to add what I know about the timeline, I applied last cohort, and made it through the first round of interviews (didn't make it further :( but they encouraged me to reapply). The packet was due on Oct. 2, and they called to schedule the interview 3 weeks later (Oct 24) and my interview was Oct 31, about a month after the deadline.

So what BorgQueen1701 was told at the job fair was exactly how it went for me last time.

P.S., I turned in my packet last time pretty close to the deadline bc I was waiting on a letter of rec, and got an interview, so as mentioned earlier, not to worry about when the packet is turned in. They read 'em all!

Thank you for sharing. I was wondering if you could give us some background info. Like what kind of questions they ask ? What was your first choice ? And what do you think they are looking for ? Any info would help. Also did you know right away you didn't make it in or did it take awhile to hear back ? I really want this job and am trying to plan as best I can. I will be traveling far if I get the interview. Do you know if they do the 2nd interview right after the first one. Some people posted they had to fly in 2-3 times and still didn't get the job. Thanks again :)

Hey everyone, I just turned in my packet as well. I applied for BMT as my 1st choice and Hematology/oncology as my 2nd. I graduated in August of 2012 but just had a baby in November so I didn't jump into work right away. I graduated out of state but am now living in LA. I'm so impatient for the phone calls to start... this is totally my dream job.

@dee1267 Thank you! It is going to be hard to leave him for work but got to pay the bills while the hubs is in grad school. And I love nursing. I really love LA. I have always lived in more rural areas so it has been really fun to live in a big city.

@babyrn88

It's the best feeling in the world to be a mom!! I have two boys and they grow so quick. Enjoy the time with your little man. Glad you are liking LA. Can't wait to move to the big city again lol.. I am in small town and miss all the big city stuff!! I hope that we all get our dream job at CHLA. It would be nice to meet everyone that's posted on here. :)
