Cedars-Sinai New Grad Summer 09

U.S.A. California

Hey everyone!

Just thought we could start a thread for those of us who interviewed for Cedars-Sinai's new grad program this past week.

Specializes in Telemetry, EKG interpretation, ICU/CCU.

yesdog...couldn't agree more! are us socal kids supposed to move out of state now?

Congratulations cmpelleg! That is so great for you!

But, on the other hand, doesn't it seem kind of weird that Cedars would hire from out of state since there is such a need for new grad nursing positions in SoCal? It seems strange to me that they are not supporting the nursing school pool of grads from SoCal. Just my thought.

It seems like they are not focused on where we live, just our degree and GPA. Maybe that's where we get the most points.

Still hoping...

Yeah, but don't you think SoCal has plenty of grads with proper qualifications? You would think so.:icon_roll

That's true...

Aside from the degree and GPA, I think a lot of what might have helped me was my work experience. I have been working as an aide at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston which is very similar and comparable to Cedars Sinai.

cmpelleg....I am sure your qualifications are excellent. I was by no means trying to discount you. I merely was discussing the hospital's choice to hire someone from another state when we have such an lack of new grad positions here. I am just wondering about how the schools in the area are going to react to this. It is a domino effect. If the hospitals don't hire local new grads, then the schools lose out also.

Again, congratulations!

Specializes in acute care then Home health.

Cedars does support many of the local so cal nursing schools. At least 1/3 of my class is working there, with our top students in specialty areas (coincidence, I dont think so). Someone was asking about scrubs... anything goes except OR/PACU wears teal color. Someone else was asking where to live... I personally wouldn't want to live too close to Cedars unless you like the big city feel. Lots of traffic and limited parking. I am happy commuting from the Valley taking one of the canyons over the hill.

lsvalliant, thank you for answering my questions!!

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I didn't want to wade through the 13 pages of this thread.....regarding GPA, is it your nursing school GPA? For example, my nursing school GPA is 4.0, however I graduated with a BA 18 years ago. Am I supposed to incorporate those grades too? I have almost 200 non-nursing credits as I actually have 2 bachelor degrees. But they are from so long ago...Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Good question. I don't think it has been specified yet, which gpa is looked at. I'm wondering, too.
